Description: Here's a really rare clip - some local coverage of the JFK assassination on WBKB Channel 7 (which later became WLS Channel 7). This is from the day after the event, when they were still trying to connect the dots. (although I am amazed at how much they have already tracked down, including Oswald's alias and where he bought the gun - Klein's Sporting Goods Company (!) at 227 West Washington Street in Chicago - owned by Mr. Milton Klein) (no relation) ;-)

Features Frank Reynolds (who later went national, anchoring for the ABC Network).

Also features a surprisingly not-young-looking Hugh Hill (considering the date of this), a longtime WLS-TV newsman, who apparently always looked like he was about 53 years old.

Lastly we see footage of Mayor Richard J. Daley giving a speech at City Hall to the Chicago City Council about John F. Kennedy and the tragedy.

Sorry for the abrupt ending; I wish there was more of this, but apparently, not. This clip was recorded and saved on 2" Quad videotape at another ABC affiliate, recorded through a closed-circuit feed of the off-air signal from Chicago. They used some of the footage for the network news coverage (likely the part about Oswald's gun being purchased in Chicago) and unfortunately stopped the recording after they got what they needed.

"So, we come now to the end of the second day of this nightmare..."

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, November 23rd 1963 during the 10pm to 10:30pm timeframe. (also on this day, a world away in Britain, the programme Doctor Who would air for the very first time!!)
