Description: Direct from 2" Quad videotape, with the help of your generous donations, and from the collection of former WFLD director Don Shannon - here is the opening for the 6 O'Clock Movie on WFLD Channel 32 from 1978! This one has a spinning film reels motif.
We first see a production info sheet that gives the details on the opening. This was number 8792 and was directed by Don Shannon. The opening runs for 20 seconds and was recorded on 6-1-78. (I wonder when they started using this, and what opening it replaced? Were these prepared early for the Fall season or would it have been used immediately?) Notice it says Field Communications, but they still used the Kaiser Broadcasting era 32 font and logo for the opening. The latest airing found so far that still used a Kaiser logo is the Monstrous Movie, which was still using the same opening as late as July of 1981!
Previously we have seen later openings/bumpers of the WFLD Six O'Clock Movie here and here.
The music used in this opening is "K-Jee" by MFSB. (from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack)
I would like to thank Don Shannon for saving this tape from ending up in a Chicago landfill!
You will see more items from 2" Quad over the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned! :-)
This likely aired on local Chicago TV soon after the June 1st 1978 recording date.
