Here's a rare segment from the morning show Kennedy and Company on WLS Channel 7, hosted by the late Bob Kennedy. This was the predecessor to AM Chicago (which was begun after Kennedy's death in 1974), and is considered in some corners to be an ancestor to the recently-ended The Oprah Winfrey Show.

This segment was devoted to the disc jockeys of WLS Musicradio 89, which was the top-rated Top 40 music station in Chicago at the time. Featured are Chuck Buell, J.J. Jeffrey, "Superjock" Larry Lujack, John "Records" Landecker, Bill Bailey, Gary Gears (later the voice of many a program promo for Channel 7), and Fred Winston.

Unfortunately, the person recording this chopped it up quite a bit, but clips from this program are extremely rare so we have to be grateful for what we have!

Calls from "kidz" are taken, and then a small portion of Don McLean's "American Pie" is played. Near the end, Bob breaks for a commercial and previews the next guest, Elia Kazan, author of the new book "The Assassins."

(Note: this was originally broadcast in color, but captured on this early home videotape recording in black and white)

This aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, February 14th 1972 during the 7:05am to 8:30am timeframe.
