Description: Here's a brief excerpt from what was then called the TV 2 News at 10pm on WBBM Channel 2 featuring a humorous technical cock-up. In this clip, anchor Bob Wallace is reporting on a burglary at the Ambassador East Hotel the prior night in which the culprits stole around $38,000 in jewelry and cash (among the victims were "insult" comic Don Rickles and his wife who lost $5,000 in jewelry, and Hollywood agent Paul Kohner and his wife who lost more than $8,000 in jewelry and $5,000 in cash).
At the point in the video from 0:20 - 0:22 there is a chroma-keyed "glow" shown, which looks a bit like a white Afro and huge beard around Mr. Wallace's face.
(TECHNICAL NOTE: For all you typesetting/font geeks out there - Mr. Wallace's name in the lower-third super was in Franklin Gothic; apparently WBBM at the time eschewed the use of Vidifont's early electronic character-generating system, using instead an early digital version of Rudi Bass's "CBS News 36" font.)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, November 3rd 1973 during the 10pm to 10:30pm timeframe.
