Description: Here are some clips from CBS News Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood that used one of our videos. Includes:
"Almanac" segment of the events of February 12th, with pertinent photos, film and video clips, and descriptions of the following:
- 1973: Ohio introduces the metric system in its highway signs, showing distances in kilometers as well as miles; a clip of a school lesson about the metric system is then shown, followed by the ultimately ill-fated attempt by the U.S. Metric Board (in existence from 1975 to 1982) to sell it to this country through PSAs (including using this footage from us), a 1976 Saturday Night Live sketch satirizing the push (with Dan Aykroyd), and a film clip of customers at a butcher shop, but the public still stood by the old English measuring system. Also seen are the 1999 crash-landing of the Mars climate orbiter and a 2003 Popular Science issue that listed metric system advocates as #11 in the list of worst jobs in science.
End credits (accompanied by Wynton Marsalis' rendition of Gottfried Reiche's "Abblasen," the long-running Sunday Morning theme):
