Description: Here's a test of the Emergency Broadcast System (or as they were referred to here, "Emergency Broadcasting System") that aired on WLS Channel 7. The text was modified somewhat from this 1981 EBS test on WMAQ Channel 5:
"This is a test. This station is conducting a test of the Emergency Broadcasting [sic] System. This is only a test . . .
"This is a test of the Emergency Broadcasting [sic] System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with Federal, state and local authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of an emergency. If this had been an actual emergency, the attention signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news or instructions. This station serves the Northeast Illinois area. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System."
And for the record, the combined 853 and 960 Hz tone commences 10 seconds into this clip and lasts 24 seconds.
