Description: Here is the opening of the WGN classic movie show, When Movies Were Movies - which this night was showing the film "Casablanca." You really have to appreciate the creativity in this, as well as the time it must have taken to make those cut-outs.
As for the theme music used for this long-running showcase - it was from the instrumental Overture to Act I of the Original Broadway Cast album of the musical "Dames at Sea" (Columbia Masterworks OS 3330, 1969; music by Jim Wise, book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller), around 2:20 into the piece.
Also includes a WGN-TV "Last Farewell" Station ID at the beginning (voiceover by Marty McNeeley).
This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, November 4th 1979.
