KABC Channel 7 - Eyewitness News (Bumper Promo, 1976)

Even though it's not from Chicago TV, I thought some here might like to see this quick news bumper promo I found for Eyewitness News on KABC Channel 7 in Los Angeles.

Anchors depicted are (from the left): Chuck Henry, Jerry Dunphy, Christine Lund, and John Hambrick.

Voiceover (most likely) by Dean Webber.

This aired on local Los Angeles TV on Sunday, November 7th 1976.

At center left in this illustration is the late, legendary Jerry Dunphy (he of the opening catch phrase "From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California, a-good evening..."; he'd come to KABC from KNXT [now KCBS-TV] the year prior to this I.D./bumper); center right is his co-anchor for many years, Christine Lund. At far right is John Hambrick (formerly of WEWS Cleveland and later of WNBC-TV New York and Miami stations WTVJ and WCIX/WFOR). Only the one at far left escapes me at this time. But Dunphy was as iconic in L.A. as WBBM and WLS' Fahey Flynn was in Chicago and WABC's Roger Grimsby was in New York.

KABC's announcing staff at the time included Len Beardsley, Ed Chandler (of "General Hospital" fame), Mike Laurence and Dean Webber. I'm not too sure, but the voice sounds almost like Webber's.

P.S. Based on some L.A. TV listings from about a month prior to this date as I saw online, apparently the one at far left is Chuck Henry who was Mr. Hambrick's co-anchor on the 5 P.M. edition of "EWN." (Mr. Henry's now with rival KNBC.)

Chuck Henry of WMAQ Channel 5 fame, too?

One and the same, from what I see. (According to his bio, he was at 'MAQ from 1978 to '82.)

Cool! So we have a Chicago connection afterall! :-)

Good. Now's the time to mention the I.D.'d anchors in the description! ;)

(Then there was the brief time in 1983-84 that ex-WLS'er John Coleman was doing the weather at WCBS Channel 2 in New York - but that's another story.)

In addition, if an affiliated Museum of Classic Los Angeles Television were to be started, this would be a good clip to headline it (as well as the other L.A. clips from 1976 on here).
