WGN Channel 9 - "Lottery Trainwreck" (1988)
Here's an interesting clip - the Illinois Lottery drawing on WGN Channel 9 where on this particular night, the balls did not drop into the mixing chamber for the "Cash 5" game and the winning numbers had to be selected off camera and given via an on-screen scroll about 20 minutes later, during the 7 O'Clock Movie airing of "Vertigo".
Featuring Merri Dee doing the drawing. Not sure who the voiceover is by, although it sounds a little like Joan Kohn. Also features supervision b...

Here's another commercial for the unfortunately named "Sambo's" Restaurants.
Featuring actor David Hollander who memorably played the part of the "little businessman who drinks coffee" in the film Airplane!.
This aired on local Los Angeles TV on Friday, July 15th 1977 during the 3:30pm to 5:00pm [PST] timeframe.
WMAQ Channel 5 - NewsCenter5 at 10 - "Hey, That's Jorie Lueloff!" (Promo, 1978)
Here's a neat promo for NewsCenter5 on WMAQ Channel 5, one of a series where "regular people" out and about in the city of Chicago run into various WMAQ-TV newscasters and have trouble recalling their names.
Featuring Edie McClurg as "the excited fan". (You might remember her from such films as "Planes, Trains & Automobiles", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and a ton of other TV and Movie appearances and voiceovers)
This aired on local Chicago TV early Sunday,...
Top Coverage - "Stop Looking Bald" (Commercial, 1981)
Here's a commercial for the anti-balding solution, "Top Coverage" - a sort of spray-paint for your bald spot. Who knew they had this as far back as 1981 (or five years earlier as the spot claims)? I think I only became aware of this or similar products in the late-1990s once infomercials took off.
"Available now at all Osco Drug stores."
This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, August 20th 1981.

Here's a neat little nugget - the ending of an episode of Star Trek on WGN Channel 9. Years before the show came to WFLD. Wish I could find someone who taped more of these. :-) Includes:
Ending of Star Trek - "Spock's Brain" (Season 3, Episode 1 - originally aired on the NBC Network, and thus in Chicago via WMAQ Channel 5, on September 20th 1968)
Commercial: Rice-a-Roni - "The San Francisco Treat!" (Featuring the little toy trolley and th...

Here's another cool clip from Ray Rayner salvaged from the dustbin of history! This one features a visit from the original "Flash Gordon," Mr. Buster Crabbe.
As the tape starts, Ray mentions that Buster had also played Buck Rogers at one time, and will be appearing the next day (March 29th) at 8:00pm and also on Sunday, March 30th at 2:00pm at the Northwest Federal Community Center, 4901 West Irving Park Road, and that recognized charities are asking for $3.00 donations, and t...
JFK's First Trip to Chicago - "Lost" 16mm Footage (1961)
Not really TV related, but it's pretty incredible - and historically significant - "lost" footage (not known to have been publicly seen until now) of President John F. Kennedy on a trip to Chicago, his first as President, on April 28th 1961.
After a few seconds of dirty leader, the film starts off with Air Force One arriving at the airport, followed by Kennedy and his contingent stepping off and him being greeted by a crowd. The President then shakes hands with various officia...

Not from Chicago, but one which, "even then," had overtaken Chicago as the "Second City" in population: a clip of the ending minutes of the early edition of NewsCenter4 with anchors Paul Moyer and Kelly Lange on KNBC Channel 4 in Los Angeles. Also features Paul Dandridge, John Marshall and Boyd Matson. This was on the tail end of a 3/4" Umatic tape where something was recorded over most of this. (A side note: The weather at this point in time was handled by a young chap named Pat ...
WBBM Channel 2 - Hunter - "The Costa Rican Connection" (Opening, Preview Breaks & Ending, 1977)
Here's the opening, preview breaks and ending moments of an episode of the TV series Hunter.
And no, folks, this is not the 1984-91 series on NBC (and thus, seen by Chicagoans on WMAQ Channel 5) with Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer, but a virtually forgotten, short-lived series - "A Lorimar Production" (the company famous at the time for The Waltons and, later, for Dallas and Knots Landing) - that ran on the CBS Network and therefore aired in Chica...
