Into The Valley Of The Space Invaders (Part 1, 1982)

Here's Part 1 of the Field Communications produced mini-documentary, "Into The Valley of The Space Invaders" hosted by Bob Wilkins. This fun special takes a look behind the video game phenomenon and interviews some of the Silicon Valley artists, programmers, and engineers involved in making them.

Obviously this airing is from the San Francisco Field outlet, KBHK Channel 44, but here in the Chicago area this program aired at least twice on WFLD Channel 32 - on

WSNS Channel 44 - "Afternoons Are Fun On 44" (Promo, 1974)

Here's a very cool glimpse at some very old TV-44 - from 1974!

It's a slides-only promo of the afternoon lineup of WSNS Channel 44, which ranged "from cartoons to action" and at the time of this airing consisted of:

- 3pm - Robin Hood (presumably the 1950's British-made TV series with Richard Greene in the title role)

- 3:30pm - Popeye on 44 with Steve Hart (a what-ful of surprises?) ;-)

- 4pm - Spider-Man (...

Screaming Yellow Theater (Svengoolie) - "Show #5 - Man Man Sven (ab)Used Cars" (1972)

Here's a segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop.

With no clapboard segments, we can only guess that this was Break #6 (from "Show #5") - although on these master tapes sometimes they didn't save all of the breaks, so this could be Break #7 or Break #8 for all we know. This one features a classic - Mad Man Sven (ab)Used Cars. This sketch was seen at one point duri...

WLS Channel 7 - Sunday Night Movie - "Lolita" (Promo, 1973)

Here's a promo for the upcoming Sunday Night Movie presentation of the 1962 film "Lolita" starring James Mason and Sue Lyon, to air on Sunday, June 10th 1973 at 10:45pm.

This was preserved on a silent 16mm film (I added the Lolita theme since I wasn't sure what else might have been appropriate). The actual airing of this promo would have been accompanied by a voiceover from any of Channel 7's staff announcer...

Way to Go! Special (Part 6, 1980)

Here is Part 6 of the Field Communications produced Way to Go! Special - an hour long (compilation?) showcase of some special kids and what they do. Has a lot of nice little slices of late seventies life as a kid. :-) The tape was dated May of 1980. My contact says that only a few of these "Specials" were made. Like I said, I'm not sure if these were compilations of segments shown on the regular Way to Go program, or if they were specifically produced for these specials. I am pretty sure this...

Here's a segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop.

With no clapboard segments, we can only guess that this was Break #4 (from "Show #5") - although on these master tapes sometimes they didn't save all of the breaks, so this could be Break #5 or Break #6 for all we know. This one features a riddle by Sven.

Note he also mentions tonight's "first" flick ...

WKBS Channel 48 - Prayer For Today & Station Sign-Off (1983)

Here is a Prayer For Today and station sign-off from WKBS Channel 48 in Philadelphia, in February 1983. Notable due to WKBS being a sister station of WFLD; they were both owned by Field Communications.

Prayer For Today given by Reverend John McFadden of the Archdiocese the Philidelphia and is Copyright 1981.

National Anthem played by the Stanford University Band and arranged by Dr. Arthur P. Barnes. Photography by the Sierra Club. (Copyright 1972 or 1973?)

WFLD Channel 32 - Chicago Stuff (Part 3, 1985)

Here's a lost Koz Klassic! - Chicago Stuff - was it a failed pilot? A consolation prize from Fox Television for cancelling Son of Svengoolie a month later? A half-remembered dream? It only aired once, at 10pm on a Sunday in December 1985 - so you couldn't be blamed for not knowing it existed. (I only heard rumors) In any case, it's a neat little package of Rich's schtick, so just think of it as an extremely early episode of The Koz Zone. :-)
