Here's a rarity for you baseball fans out there - the clean opening for Chicago White Sox games as aired on WSNS Channel 44, as it looked before the voices of the announcers and the sponsor billboards were added on for each game.

Ronald Vasser wrote, produced and directed this opening, with editing by Ron Vasser and Mike Torchia.

This copy was dubbed by Marc Claussen and Edward Keker on June 22nd 1978, as shown at the beginning of this clip (with approx. 425 Hz t...

Here is the ending from a WGN Channel 9 Friday Night Movie presentation of "Holiday Inn" (I had to edit it down) followed immediately by a promo for The 9 O'Clock News featuring Marty McNeeley, Robert Jordan, and Tom Skilling. Stories previewed:

- 5 killed in a Loop Construction Accident
- Breakthrough in the Deep Tunnel Project
- Chicago City Council OK's Mayor Byrne's City Budget
- Northwest Suburban man-turned-hero is rewarded
- Clear skie...

Here's Part 4 (the last part) of the live, special discussion program Sunday, Nuclear Sunday: Kansas City Reacts on KMBC Channel 9 in Kansas City, MO. This show, which aired right after the ABC telefilm The Day After, was hosted by Larry Moore (formerly of WLS Channel 7).

In this part, Larry fields questions from people who called into the show. The first question read is from Robert Berry of Kansas City, KS, who has a two-part query for Carsten Haaland, one aski...

WGN Channel 9 - Lead Off Man - "Opening Day With JFK" (Part 2, 1961)

Here's Part 2 of an interesting piece of history - The beginning of the Lead-Off Man show on WGN Channel 9 on Opening Day 1961, White Sox At Washington, featuring an interview with the president.

Vince Lloyd interviews both John F. Kennedy and LBJ from the President's box. Hubert Humphrey and Everett Dirksen are right behind JFK. Panoramic shots of the old (and now long gone) Griffith Stadium, with the National Anthem. JFK throws out the first ball, caught by Jungle Jim Rive...

ON TV/WFLD Channel 32 - ON TV Sign-Off & Nite-Owl Bleed-Thru (1981)

Ok, here's something kind of nuts, but I thought some people might want to see it anyway. Here's the ending of Apocalypse Now and then the station sign-off for ON TV on WSNS Channel 44. Once the station goes off the air, you can just barely make out the "bleed through" of WFLD Channel 32's signal where they were airing Nite-Owl!

At various times throughout this I can make out "Weather Update" (with a Sun graphic, the Nite-Owl logo, the Keyfax "key" at the top left of...

WMAQ Channel 5 - NewsCenter5 At 5pm - "The Blizzard of '78" (Part 3, 1978)

Everyone remembers the great Blizzard of '79 - but how many people remember the Blizzard of 1978? Before the big snow in 1979 hit, this seemed fairly significant I guess, although not as bad as the Big Snow of 1967. Was this just a case of snow-perbole? You decide.

Here is Part 3, the final part, of some footage from the NewsCenter5 airing at 5pm on WMAQ Channel 5, with Mike Jackson, Ron Hunter, and Jerry Taft. Also features a very brief glimpse of one of WMAQ-TV's sports guys...

Here's an episode of The SportsWriters on TV, as aired on SportsChannel - one of the hosts of which we lost recently (Bill Gleason).

Featuring Bill Jauss of the Chicago Tribune, Rick Telander of Sports Illustrated, Bill Gleason from the South Bend, Indiana Tribune, and hosted by Ben Bentley.

In Part 1, they discuss Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens.

WFLD Channel 32 - Sci-Fi Cinema (Promo, 1971)

Here's another extreme rarity - a promo for Sci-Fi Cinema on WFLD Channel 32, which apparently aired at the time on Saturdays at 1pm and 6pm and Sundays at 1pm.

Notice that the color comes on at the end of this promo. This is something I haven't been able to figure out on this really old material. On some of it, if the program was in black and white originally, then the commercial breaks will be in black and white too, except occasionally the color will come on. I really don...

WSNS Channel 44 - The Dating Game - "Joey D'Auria" (Part 1, 1980)

What are the odds? Recorded at random and saved without meaning to, here is an episode of The Dating Game on WSNS Channel 44. Cool enough because it has the original commercial breaks intact - however as I was scanning through it I slowly recognized the face - Chicago's Bozo the Clown the Second, Mr. Joey D'Auria was one of the bachelors!

In Part 1, we hear the intro to the show given by host Jim Lange - it's cut off slightly, however from what he says later in the sho...
