The ABC Sunday Night Movie - "Convoy" (Opening, 1981)

Here is the older-style ABC Sunday Night Movie opening - the "Star Marquee". This was used for a good portion of the seventies up until the Fall of 1981. (at which point it was replaced with the "Star Tunnel" version, also found here) The movie being shown on this night was "Convoy".

This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, April 12th 1981.

Commercial break is cut out unfortunately (with just a snippet mentioning "Olympia Dodge"), but it does include another vintage WGN Station ID at the beginning - anyone know the voiceover announcer?

I left the first few minutes of the movie before the tape ran out, just for the heck of it. :-)

Here's one of the few glimpses yet found of a show that a lot of people remember and have requested footage of - Monster Rally Movie! This aired on WSNS Channel 44 and reportedly had it's own host - a mysterious figure in a creepy costume. Here we get to see another partial commercial bumper from the show - the only type of footage (other than the movie itself) known to exist currently. The movie this night was the very weird 1973 film Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural.

Featuring Kraftwerk's "The Model" (from 1978) playing in the background of the WPWR ID, and Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting" (from 1974) playing during the movie opening.

Partial voiceover at the beginning by Neal Sabin.

This aired on local Chicago TV likely in early 1984.

Here's another long-lost WFLD movie bumper, this one for their "Comedy Movie" (wow, original name) during an airing of "Here Come The Nelsons". Features stills of Dagwood & Blondie and the East Side Kids.

Music during the bumper is an excerpt from "Der Fuehrer's Face" by Spike Jones & His City Slickers.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, July 10th 1982 during the 12 noon to 1:30pm timeframe.
