Here's another cool clip from Ray Rayner salvaged from the dustbin of history! This one features a visit from the original "Flash Gordon," Mr. Buster Crabbe.
As the tape starts, Ray mentions that Buster had also played Buck Rogers at one time, and will be appearing the next day (March 29th) at 8:00pm and also on Sunday, March 30th at 2:00pm at the Northwest Federal Community Center, 4901 West Irving Park Road, and that recognized charities are asking for $3.00 donations, and t...
Way to Go! Special (Part 8 - Final One, 1980)
Here is the eighth and final part of the Field Communications produced Way to Go! Special - an hour long (compilation?) showcase of some special kids and what they do. Has a lot of nice little slices of late seventies life as a kid. :-) The tape was dated May of 1980. My contact says that only a few of these "Specials" were made. Like I said, I'm not sure if these were compilations of segments shown on the regular Way to Go program, or if they were specifically produced for these specials. I ...

WCFC Channel 38 - Fall Praise-A-Thon (Excerpt & Channel Switching, 1983)
Here's a segment from the Fall Praise-A-Thon on WCFC Channel 38, coming in about 25 seconds into this clip after channel switching.
This starts with channel switching (from cable TV) from an excerpt from Boone episode "Chance of a Lifetime" (which aired on WMAQ Channel 5; featured Barry Corbin and Thomas Byrd) to a "Job Mart" on cable channel with soft rock song (can any music experts here apprise as to what it is?) to a film about computers and mathematics (proba...
WIIC Channel 11 - 6:30 News Roundup With Len Johnson (1962)
Exactly 56 years ago today (at 6:30 PM)!
Here's an incredible find - usually anything this old, if I am lucky to find it, is on a 16mm kinescope (remember, in 1962 Quad tape itself was only 6 years old). And even though it's from a Pittsburgh station, it has a very strong Chicago connection, as it is anchored by Len Johnson, whose voice (if not face) will no doubt be very recognizable to people who watched WGN in the 60s, 70s, and very early 80s. He was one of the ub...
WTTW Channel 11 - The Storyteller - "The Case of the Cat's Meow" (1969)

Here's another rare episode of The Storyteller on WTTW Channel 11, hosted by Val Bettin. This was Episode #54, a reading of the book "The Case of the Cat's Meow" by Crosby Bonsall (read by permission of the publisher, Harper & Row, which put the book out in their "I Can Read" series), from a 3/4" dub of the original 2" quad master tape, recorded on February 22nd 1969. This was also one of WTTW's early color productions.

Brief shot of production...

WNBQ Channel 5 - The Dorsey Connors Show (Part 2, 1963)
Here's Part 2 (the final part) of an edition of The Dorsey Connors Show on WNBQ Channel 5 (which, like most shows of this period, is only available via 16mm kinescope film). Ms. Connors, who died on September 5th 2007, was a fixture on Chicago radio and television in the early years of the latter medium, with a daytime program that was along the lines of shows such as that of Lee Phillip on WBBM Channel 2. But whereas Ms. Phillip continually remade herself (and in the process, remain...

Here is a video tribute to the long-running WCIU Channel 26 program "Rock of Ages" in honor of its 10th Anniversary. Features still pictures, clips and music from the program's history.
"Rock of Ages was a gospel music show hosted by Isabel Joseph Johnson. Isabel also hosted a similarly named show on Sunday mornings on WVON-AM. Both shows featured local talent from churches all around Chicago. Rock of Ages, it it's original format, was a live 90 minute show with the firs...
