Here's a partial test of the Emergency Broadcasting System on an unknown station in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. The person was recording some Woody Woodpecker cartoons and although they cut out the commercials they did decide to record most of the EBS test. It's pretty simple, consisting only of a single, rather discolored slide.

Did they have to traumatize kids by airing these tests during cartoons? It seems like they did the same thing in Chicago too from what I recall....

Here is the opening and first minute (before the tape ended) of an episode of the kid's show "Villa Alegre" (Happy Village) on WTTW Channel 11. Villa Alegre was the first national bilingual (Spanish/English) program in the United States. It was similar to another bilingual children's show of the era, Carrascolendas.

Also includes a sponsorship slide for Kraft at the beginning as well as the "Children's Fair" slide with voiceovers by Marty Robinson.

Here's the opening and first story on PM Magazine Chicago on WFLD Channel 32 - includes a story about amateur, everyday folks getting to be in local commercials. You'll recognize one lady from a memorable ad for radio station WFYR 103.5 (which can now be seen within this clip). Her name is Yvette Edelhart. Ah, this one is great on so many levels...the funky bassline, the organ music, the creepy Santa...oh man. Here's a commercial for Dispensa's Castle of Toys in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois on Route 83 and Roosevelt Road.

I probably should have posted this back during Christmas but oh well. I'm sure you'll forgive me.

Here's a promo of an upcoming game between the Chicago Blitz vs. Tampa Bay Bandits of the now-defunct United States Football League (USFL), to air Saturday, April 2nd at 7pm.

From this, we learn that George Allen was the Blitz' head coach and that John Reeves was the Bandits' QB. Here's Santa Claus, shown here holding a book with children gathered around him, promoting a 976 phone number in which Mrs. Claus would speak with children on the phone while he's out delivering toys. Mrs. Claus is heard by voiceover near the end, going on about how busy Santa is.

Disclaimer shown at end: "Call Rates To Downtown Chicago Apply - By Phone Programs, Illinois." Another voiceover (by ??) advises children to get their parents' permission before calling.
