WSNS Channel 44 - "Afternoons Are Fun On 44" (Promo, 1974)

Here's a very cool glimpse at some very old TV-44 - from 1974!

It's a slides-only promo of the afternoon lineup of WSNS Channel 44, which ranged "from cartoons to action" and at the time of this airing consisted of:

- 3pm - Robin Hood (presumably the 1950's British-made TV series with Richard Greene in the title role)

- 3:30pm - Popeye on 44 with Steve Hart (a what-ful of surprises?) ;-)

- 4pm - Spider-Man (...

Here's another segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop. By this point, if the clapboard is of any indication, the SYT title had been eschewed in favor of Svengoolie.

This transitional segment is from Show #59 (according to the clapboard). However, there is no recording date.

This segment is devoted to Svengoolie's "Poem o...

Here's a special Halloween & 2nd Anniversary treat -

Another faint and fuzzy memory rescued from the trashbin of obscurity - the opening to Thing Theatre on WSNS TV-44!

Thanks to a helpful YouTube commenter, we now know what the theme song for Thing Theatre is, where it came from and who it's by. You'll never believe it!

It's from the soundtrack to the movie "Car Wash" (released in 1976), performed by Rose Royce, and the exact title is Cut...

Chicago Heart Assocation - "Do You Mime If I Smoke?" - Short Version (PSA, 1979)

Here is the shorter, 10 second version of the Chicago Heart Association public service annoucement featuring Carleton the Mime. I think it's kind of ironic that the mime's name is very similar to a popular brand of cigarettes. ;-)

There is also a longer and medium length versi...

WWJ Channel 4 - "Partial Station Sign-Off" (1978)

At the end of a tape, after a recording of a movie ended, there was a bit of a previous recording that was taped over. We see most of the National Anthem, then some strange black and white bars, and then static. In the static you can hear bleeding through what perhaps was on another channel at the same time (during the static the tape kept speeding up which is why the audio races at times)

RetroNewfoundland (Vintage Canada) was enterprising enough to slow down the audio heard a...

WSNS Channel 44 - Popeye with Steve Hart (Opening, 1974)

Here's the opening segment of another rare, surviving edition of Popeye with Steve Hart on WSNS Channel 44. This was from the original master tape. According to the notes in with the tape, this was "Show #2". Notice they had not developed an opening with a theme song yet. Also the TV listings at this point only said "Popeye", not "Popeye with Steve Hart". Includes:

Opening shot of closeup of lighthouse window with ship sound effects, dissolving into Steve Hart (with...
