ON TV/WFLD Channel 32 - ON TV Sign-Off & Nite-Owl Bleed-Thru (1981)
Ok, here's something kind of nuts, but I thought some people might want to see it anyway. Here's the ending of Apocalypse Now and then the station sign-off for ON TV on WSNS Channel 44. Once the station goes off the air, you can just barely make out the "bleed through" of WFLD Channel 32's signal where they were airing Nite-Owl!
At various times throughout this I can make out "Weather Update" (with a Sun graphic, the Nite-Owl logo, the Keyfax "key" at the top left of...
WREX Channel 13 - "The Circus" (Take 3, 1969)
Here's the third and final take of a (evidently lipsynced) performance from a band called "The Circus" - recorded at WREX Channel 13 in Rockford, IL. (Not sure if this ever ran on or was intended to run on WCIU Channel 26 or not.)
This came from the other Quad tape that I found in Jack Mulqueen's basement recently. (Recorded in low band, according to the slate at the opening of this clip - as accompanied by an 800 Hz tone).
I was hoping this tape might have c...
WFLD Channel 32 - "Cartoon Odds & Ends" (1981?)
Here's a few miscellaneous remaining odds and ends from a recent discovery, from cartoon broadcasts on WFLD Channel 32. Includes:
Partial stop-motion animated bumper with Loeki the Lion watching TV and clinking glasses with a hand peering out from inside the telly, seen during an airing of Casper (voiceover by Dr. Don Rose)
Clips of a Tommy Tortoise and Moe Hare cartoon, which involved Tommy visiting New York City and driving through the sights of Broadwa...
NBC Network - NBC Nightly News with John Chancellor - "David Brinkley 'Retirement' Tribute" (1981)
Here's a tribute to David Brinkley that aired on NBC Nightly News with John Chancellor (locally on our WMAQ Channel 5), to commemorate the veteran anchor/commentator's departure from the "Peacock Network." Seen are clips of Mr. Brinkley over the course of his run with the network, from anchoring Washington, DC cut-ins of the Camel News Caravan with John Cameron Swayze, to his wry comments during the 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1980 Presidential conventions, to hi...
WLVI Channel 56 - The Benny Hill Show (Ending & Partial Break, 1979)
Not from Chicago, but still interesting (and pertinent) - here's the ending segment of an edition of The Benny Hill Show from WLVI Channel 56 in Boston, Massachusetts (sister station to our own WFLD Channel 32 until 1983), followed by a partial commercial break. Includes:
Ending chase sequence from his October 28th 1970 special, with Lesley Goldie disrobing to a bikini while a prisoner (Benny) is on the verge of being executed by a firing squad led by (Bob Todd) and whi...
WLS Channel 7 - Editorial Reply - "School Integration" (1979)
Here's an reply to an editorial on HEW (Department of Health, Education and Welfare - predecessor to Health and Human Services, HHS)-mandated school integration policies, as aired on WLS Channel 7. Featuring Doris "Pixie" Galik, Treasurer of the Chicago Lawn Civic Association.
She maintains that Chicago has done everything it can to integrate its schools (to the point where, according to her, public schools have more black than white students), and rails against government-dic...

Here's Part 3 of an edition of the TV2 News at 10 on WBBM Channel 2, with Bob Wallace substituting for then-regular anchor Bob McBride. Also featuring weatherman John Coughlin.
This edition was transferred from the original 2" Quad tape.
Includes:
Bob introducing John as "Uncle Louie's favorite nephew," leading into Mr. Coughlin's weather report which changed considerably from the past 24 hours - with no precipitation projected for the Chica...
WBKB Channel 7 - News - "Local Kennedy Assassination Coverage" (1963)
Here's a really rare clip - some local coverage of the JFK assassination on WBKB Channel 7 (which later became WLS Channel 7). This is from the day after the event, when they were still trying to connect the dots. (although I am amazed at how much they have already tracked down, including Oswald's alias and where he bought the gun - Klein's Sporting Goods Company (!) at 227 West Washington Street in Chicago - owned by Mr. Milton Klein) (no relation) ;-)
Features Frank Reynol...
