WOR Channel 9 - News 9 - "Tom Dunn, Kid Reporter" Promo & 9 All Night Bumper (1984)

Here's a promo for News 9 on WOR Channel 9 in New York City, spotlighting anchor Tom Dunn's interest in news dating from his childhood (with a younger actor playing the younger Dunn). The real-life Tom Dunn (who died in 2006) is shown towards the end, both solo and flanked by (clockwise from lower left) co-anchor Sara Lee Kessler (last heard from on FM News 101.9 in New York, a sister station to our very own local former FM News 101.1), weatherman Lloyd Lindsay Young (last heard from ...

WMAQ Channel 5 - NewsFive - [Partial] Coverage of Sam Giancana Funeral with Rich Samuels (1975)

Here's a partial, incomplete report from Rich Samuels of WMAQ Channel 5 on the funeral of former Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana.

We catch this report as Rich lists Giancana's crime career, going back to Al Capone and including gambling and prostitution rings. He describes "a sea of anonymous faces" which mostly dominated the funeral service, except for Keely Smith who, he said, signified his preferences for "show business types in his later years." He notes about the hostility...

WAVE Channel 3 - Celebrity Sweepstakes (Opening, 1975)

Here's the first 2 minutes and 20 seconds or so of an episode of the game show "Celebrity Sweepstakes" as aired on WAVE-TV Channel 3 in Louisville, Kentucky. Only a couple episodes of this show still exist apparently, so it's likely this is the only existing clip of this episode, which featured celebrities Darren McGavin, Jim Nabors, Dan Rowan, Betty White and regulars Joey Bishop and Carol Wayne. Jim McKrell was the host of this daytime game show.

Features a recap of the Sha...

Screaming Yellow Theater (Svengoolie) - "Wilderness Road" - The Golden Goolie Award (Segment #2-2, 1973)

Here's another segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop. By this point, if the clapboard is of any indication, the SYT title had been eschewed in favor of Svengoolie.

This segment (#2-2) is from Show #59 (according to the clapboard). However, there is no recording date.

In this segment, Svengoolie is presiding over "The Go...

WBBM Channel 2 - Station ID Slide (Tiny Excerpt, 1971)

The transfer of this video clip made possible by your generous donations!

Here's a very brief excerpt of a station ID slide from WBBM Channel 2. The "2" at this point was from the network-mandated "CBS Didot" serif font, unlike sister stations WCBS Channel 2 in New York and then-KNXT Channel 2 (now KCBS) in Los Angeles which then used sans-serif Grotesque No. 9 whose size was the same as the CBS Eye. It should be also noted that another sister station at the time, WCAU...

WMAQ Channel 5 - Editorial 5 - "Firefighters' Strike" (1980)

Here's an editorial by Dillon Smith, Editorial Director of WMAQ Channel 5, on the Chicago firefighters' strike which, at the time of this editorial, was in its sixth day.

Dillon applauds Mayor Jane Byrne's tough stand against the strikers, yet laces into her for using language such as "goon squads" - but to be sure, he does not in any way support the strike which he emphasizes is illegal and "irresponsible." He cannot comprehend the Chicago Federation of Labor's support for th...

WFLD Channel 32 - Movie For A Saturday Afternoon - "The Kettles On Old McDonald's Farm" (Ending, 1980)

Here's something pretty rare - some footage from WFLD Channel 32's Movie for a Saturday Afternoon featuring the Kaiser-era 32 logo, so this must have dated to at least early 1977 (Previous to this we only had a tiny excerpt of this bumper). Most of it was taped over unfortunately, but this is what remains. This last segment, with complete commercial break and ending sequence, includes:

Ending of "...
