The Reluctant Robot (Part 8, 1980)

Here is the 8th and final part from another all but forgotten Field Communications special production - The Reluctant Robot. It was produced to get kids interested in Astronomical Science; pulsars, planets, space travel, etc. You can definitely see the influence from Star Wars a couple years earlier. The budget must not have been too great because the whole thing comes off as feeling like an episode of Dr. Who. (not that there's anything *wrong* with that) ;-)

Here's the first nearly eight minutes of another edition of the overnight First Edition news summary on WBBM Channel 2. The "anchor" on this broadcast is Jerry Harper. Includes:

Station ID / promo for Match Game for weekdays at 3:30pm (voiceover by Bob Carrington)

Opening for First Edition, with Jerry going straight to the news items of the day:

- Excerpts shown from President Reagan's televised speech, in which he calls for ...

Here are some excerpts of the various public affairs and miscellaneous programming offered by WSNS Channel 44 in the mid-1970's, from a demo reel produced by the station. Included are:

WBBM Channel 2 - New Year's Eve: Chicago Style (Part 4, 1979/1980)

Here's Part 4, the last part, of "New Year's Eve: Chicago Style" - a special on WBBM Channel 2. Unfortunately, the recording starts during a commercial break and we miss the first 10 minutes or so of the broadcast - still, lots of local fun in this one. :-) This part includes:

Bob Wallace reports again from Arnie's Restaurant and then belts out a little of "My Kind of Town" while the ending credits roll.

WLS Channel 7 - Ending of Saturday Night Movie, Reflections and Station Sign-Off (1977)

Here's (as far as I'm aware) the earliest known (to date) sign-off sequence, from any channel, to turn up here. This one is from WLS Channel 7, found at the end of a Umatic videotape that was mostly recorded over with high school girls' gymnastics home movies from 1977 (boooooo!) and includes:

The ending moments of the Saturday Night Movie presentation (in glorious "pan-and-scan" and quite terrible color - it's not the recording - compare to how the commercials look!) o...

WFLD Channel 32 - Promotional Sales Film (Part 1, 1970)

Here's a terrific piece of local history and the next best thing to a guided tour of WFLD's facilities circa 1970 for you broadcast equipment junkies out there (W.B. I'm looking in your direction...) ;-)

This is Part 1 of a WFLD promotional film for (I assume) the sales department, meant to be shown to prospective advertisers on why WFLD was such a kick-arse station to buy time on. And they do take their time - in the first part showing the aforementioned equipment spread, as...

WLS Channel 7 - News - "Armed Gunman Inside Channel 7 Building" (Part 1, 1990)

Here's Part 1 of WLS Channel 7's news coverage of an armed robbery suspect who hid out for 40 hours at the 190 North State Street building that houses the station.

This part comes in while in progress, and starts with Dick Johnson and Sylvia Perez atop the Sears Tower which houses WLS's transmitter. They cut to Chuck Goudie outside the building; his microphone comes in and out at the outset. He gives information on the suspect: John Fidel Andre Kane, 28, who worked at one po...

WNBQ Channel 5 - The Dorsey Connors Show (Part 2, 1963)

Here's Part 2 (the final part) of an edition of The Dorsey Connors Show on WNBQ Channel 5 (which, like most shows of this period, is only available via 16mm kinescope film). Ms. Connors, who died on September 5th 2007, was a fixture on Chicago radio and television in the early years of the latter medium, with a daytime program that was along the lines of shows such as that of Lee Phillip on WBBM Channel 2. But whereas Ms. Phillip continually remade herself (and in the process, remain...

WFLD Channel 32 - Chicago Stuff (Part 1, 1985)

Here's a lost Koz Klassic! - Chicago Stuff - was it a failed pilot? A consolation prize from Fox Television for cancelling Son of Svengoolie a month later? A half-remembered dream? It only aired once, at 10pm on a Sunday in December 1985 - so you couldn't be blamed for not knowing it existed. (I only heard rumors) In any case, it's a neat little package of Rich's schtick, so just think of it as an extremely early episode of The Koz Zone. :-)
