Here are two short promos for the coming arrival of Maury Povich as co-anchor with Ron Hunter of the 4:30pm and 6pm editions of NewsCenter5 on WMAQ Channel 5. The first features Broadway star Carol Channing, the second Senator Hubert H. Humphrey (D-Minnesota), each giving testimonials about what effect Mr. Povich will have on Chicago viewers. (It would be another decade, however, before Maury would have a major effect on the rest of the country.)

These aired on local C...

One of WCIU's first independent "ethnic" producers, Bobby entertained Chicago's Greek audience for many years on Sunday nights at 7pm with Hellenic Theater. Mostly a music show with talent from Chicago's many Greek nightclubs, the show was d...

Here's a commercial for Alberto VO5 hair spray with English television and theater "star" Rula Lenska. Also features an Alberto-Culver Silver Anniversary Sweepstakes offer at end where you can win $25,000 in Tiffany money (?)

Relevant Factoid: Son of Svengoolie loved to use her name as a punchline many times, especially in the early years of the show.

"Offer ends August 11, 1979."

This aired on local Chicago TV early Tuesday, February 20th ...

WFLD Channel 32 - All in the Family (Bumpers, 1981)

Here are two more examples of the old WFLD Field-style Zoomin' bumpers that I edited together - this time for All in the Family on WFLD Channel 32, both of which have a snippet of the closing theme "Remembering You" (written by series star Carroll O'Connor and Roger Kellaway). The first bumper has a still of Archie (O'Connor) and Edith (Jean Stapleton), and the second has a still of Archie and Edith with Mike (Rob Reiner) and Gloria (Sally Struthers); both stills date to the mid-1970'...

Here's the ending of the WGN Thursday Night Movie presentation of "The Mackintosh Man" with a humorous voiceover preview for tomorrow night's movie.

Apparently, Clif Mercer wasn't the only one who sounded like this at times. ;-)

(and no, The Mackintosh Man did *not* star Justin Long) ;-)

Voiceover by Paul Rogers.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, July 7th 1983 at a little before 9pm.

Screaming Yellow Theater (Svengoolie) - "Show #5 - More Mort Sahl" (1972?)

Here's a segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop.

With no clapboard segments, we can only guess that this was Break #2 (from "Show #5") - although on these master tapes sometimes they didn't save all of the breaks, so this could be Break #3 or Break #4 for all we know. This one again features comedian Mort Sahl sitting down and making some humorous topical comments...
