The Keane Brothers (Commercial #2, 1977)

Here's another commercial for the eponymous debut album by the "Hanson" of their day - The Keane Brothers. (Tom and John) This one is shorter but has some different footage. (The longer version is here)

On 20th Century Records and Tapes. Produced by the legendary David Foster.

Nowadays they probably would have had to look like Justin Bieber in order to get a record deal.

ON TV/WFLD Channel 32 - ON TV Sign-Off & Nite-Owl Bleed-Thru (1981)

Ok, here's something kind of nuts, but I thought some people might want to see it anyway. Here's the ending of Apocalypse Now and then the station sign-off for ON TV on WSNS Channel 44. Once the station goes off the air, you can just barely make out the "bleed through" of WFLD Channel 32's signal where they were airing Nite-Owl!

At various times throughout this I can make out "Weather Update" (with a Sun graphic, the Nite-Owl logo, the Keyfax "key" at the top left of...

Lincoln Carpeting (Commercial #3, 1984)

To complete the trifecta, here is one more Lincoln Carpeting commercial, circa 1984. Not the full version of the jingle, but enough.

Off comes the tie, and out come the sales records. Uh-oh, he's going for the hard sell now. :-)

WDHO Channel 24 - "Nuclear Destruction: Catch It On WDHO!" (On-Screen ID, 1983)

Here's something not from Chicago TV but still interesting to show the differences in stations presentations' of The Day After (an ABC Theater telemovie about the effects of a full-scale nuclear attack on the United States).

WLS-TV did not have an on-screen station ID for the entirety of the movie. However, WDHO Channel 24 in Toledo, Ohio apparently thought it was appropriate to put several of their ID's on screen throughout the movie - the most distracting of th...

Ok, it's not Chicago - it's New York, but I figured we'd all like to see this anyway - I just found it. (And we do have some New York visitors here from time to time.) Includes:

WNBC-TV News, Sports & Weather summary with Don Pardo voiceover (can't help but smile a little when I hear him reading serious news)

WNBC-TV4 Editorial (Don Pardo voiceover intro) with Joseph Michaels, Editorial Director of WNBC-TV.

Lincoln Carpeting (Commercial #1, 1984)

Here is a Lincoln Carpeting commercial, circa 1984. Not the full version of the jingle, but enough. :-)

Apparently, Lincoln is the thinking man's carpet company. Makes that Empire guy look like a uneducated philistine. ;-)

Lincoln Carpeting (Commercial #2, 1984)

Here is another Lincoln Carpeting commercial, circa 1984. Not the full version of the jingle, but enough. Now the Lincoln guy gets his wife in on the act. :-)

WMAQ Channel 5 - "Memory" (1984)

Here's a video montage (missing beginning part) that WMAQ Channel 5 used as part of their sign-off apparently for a few years. It features the song "Memory" from the musical "Cats", and showcases Chicagoland senior citizens and various aspects in their lives. Kind of a strange thing to show during sign-off. I mean, for what purpose was this made? Other than to make you realize that your life is going by as you watch TV at 3 in the morning before the station signs-off? ;-)

Carvel Ice Cream - "Tom Turkey Cake" (Commercial, 1984)

Here's a treat for "Fuzzy" New Yorkers: a commercial for Carvel Ice Cream, promoting their "Tom Turkey" ice cream cake for Thanksgiving. (The molds used to produce this were also used for such other goodies as Cookie Puss and Fudgie the Whale.) Serves 10 to 12, net weight 45 ounces.

Voiceover by Tom Carvel (the founder and namesake of Carvel Ice Cream), both as himself and (sped-up and heavily processed) as Tom Turkey.

This aired on local New York City TV (and...
