WFLD Channel 32 - Soul Searching & Chicago '80 (Excerpts, 1980)

Here is something from the extremely fuzzy memory department - a very staticy clip of the ending of Soul Searching (public affairs program for African-Americans I can only assume) followed by a Field Communications ID, a WFLD All in the Family promo and then the opening and first couple minutes of Chicago '80 - hosted by Norman Mark - with that weeks topic - "Atheism - Is there a God?".

Featuring Ouida Lindsey as host of Soul Searching (Fashions by Holiday ...

Star Wars Patrol Dewback by Kenner (Commercial, 1980)

Here's a commercial for the Star Wars Patrol Dewback action figure by Kenner. Can be used with Storm Trooper action figure. Also seen are the R2-D2 and C-3PO action figures. Each sold separately.

This ad aired only a few months prior to the release of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (reclassified as Episode 5 in the saga after the release of the "prequels"). It is also notable for an early appearance by a young Ricky Schroeder (in the yellow shirt) - a few ...

WTTW Channel 11 - Wild Chicago - "Stephen Colbert Cameo" (1990)

Here's a neat clip from an episode of Wild Chicago - one of their "Dumb Question" segments where they go somewhere and ask random people a question of questionable intelligence. This one took place in Lincoln Park near Diversey.

As I watched this episode and saw this segment I kept going back to this part - that guy in the sunglasses looks familiar...finally it hit me - it's Stephen Colbert!! (of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report fame) You can also see one o...

WBBM Channel 2 - "Thunderstorms Forever" (1979)

Here is the opening to a rebroadcast of the made-for-tv movie "Forever" starring Stephanie Zimbalist of Remington Steele fame. This is interesting for a number of reasons, but mainly because it features a WBBM Channel 2 weather-crawl warning of thunderstorms for some Wisconsin counties. (How nice of a Chicago station to let them know!)

Hard to believe Stephanie Zimbalist was 21-22 when this movie was filmed.

WMAQ Channel 5 - NewsCenter5 - "A Service For The Deaf" (1976)

Here's something pretty neat - a NewsCenter5 update on WMAQ Channel 5 for the deaf, with Doug Goldhamer reading the news and doing the corresponding sign-language. (voiceover introduction by Ed Grennan) Includes:

WMAQ-TV Station ID slide at the beginning (voiceover by Ed Grennan)

A bit of a technical difficulty moment when the superimposed name doesn't work right.

WMAQ Channel 5 - NewsCenter5 - "Reagan Assassination Attempt Coverage" (1981)

Here's an edition of NewsCenter5 on WMAQ Channel 5 which was devoted entirely to the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Featuring anchor Linda Yu, Tom Korzeniowski, Carol Marin, Russ Ewing, Rich Samuels, and Dick Kay. Includes:

Linda mentioning the local/regional angle of the Reagan shooting - with both the President and Press Secretary James Brady born and raised in the state, and wounded Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy a Chicago native, before go...

Here's a commercial for the Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back video game from Parker Brothers. For use in Atari and Sears home video game systems.

Unlike the many ads for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back "action figures" from Kenner, this one uses the actual music from John Williams' movie score.
