Jewel Food Stores - "Midnight Jewels" (Commercial, 1972)

Here's a pretty awesome super-vintage commercial for Jewel Food Stores (A.K.A., "Jewels" as we called them back in de olde neighborhood), advertising their "Midnight Jewel" service with over 70 stores open until midnight seven days a week.

Features three people with differing stories - a man who ran out of food while throwing a party (Dick Orkin), a woman who works days and thus can't shop until the evening (Cherie Mason), and a younger woman on the hunt for Corn Flakes for h...

HERE'S ANOTHER LONG LOST SNIPETS SEGMENT! Features a young Black/Asian (?) lad, contemplating his physical features, while we hear his internal monologue.

This one actually came from 16mm film and interestingly, includes the opening and closing Snipets bumpers - the Kaiser Broadcasting variation no less.

This is one of the "Pride Has Many Faces" series of Snipets of which t...

Here's a promo for the "Festival of Television" and their first night of special programming on WFLD Channel 32. Here are Chris Tuft's recollections:

"It was a weeknight hour of 1950s sitcoms. Monday (June 19th 1978) was (as noted in the promo) "The Jack Benny Show" (at 10:30pm) and "My Hero" (at 11pm). Tuesday was "Topper" and "The Gale Storm Show", Wednesday was "Love That Bob" and "How to Marry a Millionaire". Thursday was "Bachelor Father" and "People's Choice." Fr...

Stove Top Stuffing For Pork With Ally Sheedy (Commercial, 1980)

Here's a commercial for Stove Top Stuffing for Pork, in which a young Ally Sheedy (in the period when she was frequently appearing in such commercials, and years before becoming a key member of the "Brat Pack") lures "Uncle Tim" (who's building a doghouse) to a dinner with pork chops accompanied by Stove Top instead of potatoes.

Yet more Ally Sheedy commercial work...jeez, we might have to make a special category for her. So far we've seen her in

ON TV/WFLD Channel 32 - ON TV Sign-Off & Nite-Owl Bleed-Thru (1981)

Ok, here's something kind of nuts, but I thought some people might want to see it anyway. Here's the ending of Apocalypse Now and then the station sign-off for ON TV on WSNS Channel 44. Once the station goes off the air, you can just barely make out the "bleed through" of WFLD Channel 32's signal where they were airing Nite-Owl!

At various times throughout this I can make out "Weather Update" (with a Sun graphic, the Nite-Owl logo, the Keyfax "key" at the top left of...

WCIX Channel 6 - Snipets - "Pride Has Many Faces" (1984)

Here's another rare Snipets segment! These originally were created by and aired on the Kaiser Broadcasting / Field Communications stations such as WFLD Channel 32, in the 70s and early 80s. However, with the sale and dissolution of Field starting in 1982, for whatever reason Snipets segments popped up on a few other non-Field or former-Field stations, even as late as 1986!

This particular a...

WGN Channel 9 - Miles Showcase Theatre - "The Maltese Falcon" (On-Screen ID, 1973)

Here's an on-screen station ID from the Miles Showcase Theatre presentation of the 1941 Humphrey Bogart movie "The Maltese Falcon" on WGN Channel 9. The ID is typeset on a very primitive character generator system whose service dated back to the late 1960's, and was used by other stations and networks on such news events as the 1968 Democratic National Convention and the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing. This early CG typesetting preceded such systems as Vidifont and Chyron.
