Here's Part 2 of an episode of AM Chicago on WLS Channel 7 featuring famed sports reporter and anchor Tim Weigel as host (were they going through a different host each week at this point?). This was at the point when the show had been reduced to only a half-hour in length. The guest on this episode was legendary Chicago newspaper columnist and author, Mike Royko, who was 49 years old at the time. Includes:

Tim and Mike discuss ERA protesters, Mike's love of 16-inch so...

WFLD Channel 32 - Creature Feature - "The Black Cat" (Tiny Opening Excerpt, 1979)

Blink, and you'll miss it!

Here is an extreme rarity - a painfully small excerpt from the opening of WFLD Channel 32's Creature Feature program. This was the program that was replaced by Son of Svengoolie in Summer of 1979.

If you pause the video at the right spot you can see a fairly clear shot of the opening title. You can make out a smokey graveyard type atmosphere with a black crow or raven perched on a tree branch to the right and a coffin in the foregro...

Blink, and you'll miss it! (especially this time)

Here is an extreme rarity - a painfully small microblip from a commercial break bumper of WFLD Channel 32's Creature Feature program. This was the program that was replaced by Son of Svengoolie in Summer of 1979. That would date this clip to at least before that time.

If you pause the video at about 10 seconds in you can see a fairly clear frame of the commercial bumper. In this one you can again make out a sm...

WBBM Channel 2 - TV 2 News at 10pm - "Chroma Key Afro" (1973)

Here's a brief excerpt from what was then called the TV 2 News at 10pm on WBBM Channel 2 featuring a humorous technical cock-up. In this clip, anchor Bob Wallace is reporting on a burglary at the Ambassador East Hotel the prior night in which the culprits stole around $38,000 in jewelry and cash (among the victims were "insult" comic Don Rickles and his wife who lost $5,000 in jewelry, and Hollywood agent Paul Kohner and his wife who lost more than $8,000 in jewelry and $5,000 in cash...

WGN Channel 9 - Family Theatre - "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" (Opening, 1972)

Here's something incredibly rare (tape-tracking problems notwithstanding) - another local movie show opening yanked from the dustbin of TV history! Tracking is kind of rough, but here is the opening of the Family Theatre presentation of "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" on WGN Channel 9. We see a dancing man with a hat and cane, who eventually gets yanked by the hook, as in the vaudeville days...

Gigglesnort Hotel (Ending)

Here is the closing from one of the best and most remembered Chicago children's shows (although it was eventually syndicated to other markets) - Gigglesnort Hotel.

Even though it was seen for many years after it was produced, the show was only in production for 3 years - 1975, 1976, and 1977. In Chicago, it aired on Sunday mornings on WLS Channel 7.

Show Credits:

Written and Produced by Bill Jackson

Directed by Carl Tubbs

WLS Channel 7 - Eyewitness News - "Superfan Slims Down" (1980)

Here's Tim Weigel's sports report and the ending of the WLS Channel 7 Eyewitness News at 10pm. Includes stories on the Chicago Bulls "Superfan" (Jeff Platt) and his dramatic weight loss in an interview with "Big Al" Al Lerner. (I wonder if Platt was the inspiration for the SNL sketch about "The Superfans" featuring George Wendt, Chris Farley and Robert Smigel?) Other stories include Muhammed Ali stumping for President Jimmy Carter, and Mike Schmidt winning the MVP for the World Series.

WGN Channel 9 - The Ray Rayner Show - "Clock Excerpts #1" (1971)

The transfer of this video clip made possible by your generous donations!

Here's the good news - someone recorded The Ray Rayner Show at various times in the early seventies! Now the bad news - they only recorded the cartoons, and cut out nearly everything else. :-( I bring you the only snippets left - a few excerpts of the clock that they would show the time on, and in some cases, the chalkboard with the date, weather, and sports scores. Some might wonder why...

KOCO Channel 5 - Saturday Night Double Feature (Opening, 1972)

Here's the opening titles for the Saturday Night Double Feature from KOCO Channel 5 in Oklahoma City, OK. Dig the early video effects, as well as the synth-heavy theme music (which has been revealed to be "Topless Dancers of Corfu" by Dick Hyman and His Electric Eclectics, released in 1969 on Command single #RS 45-4126 [later switched to the ABC/Probe label under the same catalogue number] as the B-side of his Top 40 hit from that year, "The Minotaur"; both were also on his LP Moog...
