WSNS Channel 44 - "The Mike Douglas Show" (Bumper Promo, 1977)

Here's a quick bumper promo for The Mike Douglas Show airing on WSNS Channel 44 weekdays at 5pm starting Monday, April 18th 1977.

(I was able to date these clips exactly because it was recorded on the tape after the Superman episode that aired from April 10th to the 15th, and because this episode was preceeded by Spider-Man, so it must have aired on a Sunday but before the 18th)

Voiceover by Linda Frost.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Sun...

KOCO Channel 5 - Lunch With Ho Ho (Promo #2, 1965)

Here is a promo for "Lunch With Ho-Ho" on KOCO-TV Channel 5 in Oklahoma City. This was a children's program featuring HoHo the Clown (played by Ed Birchall) and Pokey the Puppet (played by Bill Howard, the station's long-time stage manager wearing a sock-puppet on his arm).

We can probably assume that this was recorded at the same session as the first promo, i.e., on Wednesday, August 11th 1965. The Director was "Thrash" with Camera by "Rose and Waters".

Son of Svengoolie - "Bert Im-Ho-Tep" (Break 1, Show #172)

Here is break #1 of WFLD Channel 32's Son of Svengoolie show #172.

Includes the sketch, "Bert Im-Ho-Tep". (Which I believe was a repeat of a sketch from an earlier show). Parody of Bert Weinman Ford at 3535 North Ashland Avenue with Linn Burton as spokesman.

Not sure of the year exactly - early eighties.

Starring Rich Koz as Son of Svengoolie and Bert Im-Ho-Tep.

WKBD Channel 50 - Star Trek (Bumper #1, 1977)

Here's a neat early bumper for Star Trek on one of WFLD's sister stations - WKBD Channel 50 in Detroit. They didn't have any voiceovers or music - none of the others during the episode had them either. Star Trek fans were all business. ;-)

Since this aired so early in the year, I'm pretty sure this bumper design was also used in 1976 and maybe since the beginning of WKBD's airing of Star Trek re-runs? In other words, this is likely the very first bumper design in a long his...

WSNS Channel 44 - The Star Spangled Movie - "Adventures of Captain Fabian" (Promo, 1980)

Here's a promo for the 10-6-80 airing of The Star-Spangled Movie presentation of the 1966 film "Adventures of Captain Fabian" on WSNS TV-44. Previous to this we saw a few other glimpses of this bumper movie show - maybe it always aired at 3:30pm on weekdays? Could this help definitively date those other clips?

Voiceover by Don Ferris.

This promo aired on local C...

WKBD Channel 50 - Star Trek (Bumper #2, 1977)

Here's another Star Trek bumper from one of WFLD's sister-stations - WKBD Channel 50 in Detroit - this one with a different font for the show name than the first one. The others can be seen here (January 1977) and here (June 1977).

This aired on local Detroit TV on Monday, April 25th 1977. (not Chicago, but still cool)

Emergency Broadcast System Test (Tiny Excerpt, 1977)

Here's a clip that's very short but also very rare. On the 1977 WSNS tape, between the two episodes of Superman there was a quick switch to something that might have been recorded previously - a small excerpt of an Emergency Broadcast System test. You can see the slide used for it and make out a word or two of the announcement "Broadcasters...(in your area, probably)"

Slide says: "Emergency Broadcast System - Official Government Information - Civil Defense Instructions"

Girls Clubs of America - "Girls Clubs Are Great!" (PSA, 1973)

Here's a PSA for the Girls Clubs of America, with a female singer/guitarist extolling the virtues of the Girls Clubs, and film footage spotlighting a young gymnast interspersed with clips of one girl looking on as a car engine is being repaired, a stage audition with budding ballerinas, a campfire sing along, and a gathering in a room with a handwritten "DALLAS OR BUST" sign on the wall in one corner.

This was one of many now-iconic PSA's that aired throughout most of the 197...
