Here is a young-looking Shelley Long, 2 years before she hit Cheers, in a commercial for Homemakers - which apparently at this point was but only a division of John M. Smyth.

"Not low priced furniture... but good furniture at low prices..."

Don't argue semantics with me, lady.

Here's a saucy commercial for WBMX - "Progressive" FM 103.

The call letters WBMX (standing for Black Music EXperience), were originally assigned to 102.7 on the FM dial in Oak Park/Chicago Illinois from 1973 to 1988. (That station frequency is now home to R&B station WVAZ - better known as V-103). In 1991, the call letters WBMX were assigned to 98.5 on the FM dial in the Boston area.

Contains some quick clips of the Chicago White Sox.

Here is the opening for The Saturday Night Movie on WLS Channel 7. They used this same opening on other ABC stations such as WABC in New York. This opening (but with a different end title) was also used for The Late Night Movie (which I will also post here).

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, February 6th 1982.

Woolworth - "Dollar Days" (Commercial, 1980)

Here's a commercial for that store we all used to go to - "Woolworth's", which my Mom called a "dime store". The one we specifically used to go to was in Cermak Plaza in Berwyn (or was it technically North Riverside?), and a few doors down was "Murphy's" - another dimestore-type place. Anyone remember them?

Ahhh..."Tube Hose"...

This aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, May 19th 1980.

By 1985 (perhaps earlier?), WLS and likely other ABC stations were using the same opening as "The Saturday Night Movie" for "The Late Night Movie", with just the title changed - here is an example.

(sound cut off slightly at beginning)

WLS Channel 7 - "The Late Night Movie" (Shorter Opening, 1987)

By early 1987 WLS was in the final months of using this version of the opening which it had used for so long. Time=Money, so they had to shorten it up a bit.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Tuesday, January 20th 1987.

WLS Channel 7 - "The Late Night Movie" (New Opening, 1987)

By at least June of 1987, WLS had changed over to their new computer generated open for "The Late Night Movie". I'm sure everyone would agree it was not as good as the old one - but then again, what is?

This aired on local Chicago TV in June of 1987.

WPWR Channel 60 (Station Sign-On, 1985)

Here is a station sign-on from WPWR Channel 60 - sorry for the bad quality, but this is the best available right now. Also seems like they forgot to turn the audio up for the first few seconds of the sign-on.

Voiceover by Larry Langford.

This aired on local Chicago TV early Saturday, May 4th 1985 at 2:30am.
