Here's Part 4, the last part, of the Field Communications produced mini-documentary, "Into The Valley of The Space Invaders" hosted by Bob Wilkins. This fun special takes a look behind the video game phenomenon and interviews some of the Silicon Valley artists, programmers, and engineers involved in making them.

Obviously this airing is from the San Francisco Field outlet, KBHK Channel 44, but here in the Chicago area this program aired at least twice on WFLD Channel 32 - on <...

WGN Channel 9 - "Lottery Trainwreck" (1988)

Here's an interesting clip - the Illinois Lottery drawing on WGN Channel 9 where on this particular night, the balls did not drop into the mixing chamber for the "Cash 5" game and the winning numbers had to be selected off camera and given via an on-screen scroll about 20 minutes later, during the 7 O'Clock Movie airing of "Vertigo".

Featuring Merri Dee doing the drawing. Not sure who the voiceover is by, although it sounds a little like Joan Kohn. Also features supervision b...

WGN Channel 9 - Night Beat - "Spooky Lottery Hijinx" (1980)

Here's an excerpt from an episode of Night Beat on WGN Channel 9 where the news story was about a lottery fraud and scandal in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that took place on Thursday, April 24th 1980, in which people tampered with and rigged the "Daily Number" game by injecting liquid into the ping-pong balls, in order to weigh them down and produce a desired outcome.

Seen selecting the balls is "senior citizen witness" Violet Lowery (not implicated in the scheme). The m...

WMAQ Channel 5 - WMAQ-TV Editorial - "Sabotaging the RTA" (1973)

Here's an editorial by Dillon Smith, Editorial Director of WMAQ Channel 5, lacing into the Illinois State Legislature's continued failure to come up with legislation to create a Regional Transit Authority for the Chicago area (or as Mr. Smith termed it, "acting with unprecedented irresponsibility").

In the course of the editorial, he names names including House Speaker Robert Blair and Illinois Governor Dan Walker, denounces the political partisanship ("a three-ring clown act...

WMAQ Channel 5 - Editorial 5 - "Parking Garage Sale" (1979)

Here's an editorial by Dillon Smith, Editorial Director of WMAQ Channel 5, in which he brands Mayor Jane Byrne's proposed sale of city parking garages to interested bidders a "mistake," saying once the easy cash from a proposed sale is spent from within the next year's city budget, the garages are "gone forever," whereas if the garages weren't sold, the city would profit from them forever.

He proposes that if the parking garages aren't making enough money, the city should jus...

WFLD Channel 32 - Sci-Fi Cinema (Promo, 1971)

Here's another extreme rarity - a promo for Sci-Fi Cinema on WFLD Channel 32, which apparently aired at the time on Saturdays at 1pm and 6pm and Sundays at 1pm.

Notice that the color comes on at the end of this promo. This is something I haven't been able to figure out on this really old material. On some of it, if the program was in black and white originally, then the commercial breaks will be in black and white too, except occasionally the color will come on. I really don...

WGN Channel 9 - Give Me Liberty - "Aural Difficulties" (1975?)

Here's a segment from the made-for-TV movie "Give Me Liberty".

This clip is interesting because it contains a technical difficulties moment when the station lost the sound for the network feed and printed on the screen "Lost Network Sound. Please stand by."

At about the one minute mark and again at the 2 minute 43 second mark you hear two different announcers respectively, who are they? I think I have a clue but I'll let you guys guess.

"Our soun...

WEFM 99 - "We Plays Your Songs" (Commercial, 1980)

Here's a commercial for former radio station WEFM 99.5 - "We" FM.

From Wikipedia:
History - 99.5 WEFM/99-"We" FM
Until 1978, 99.5 was classical WEFM. In May 1978, WEFM (after many years of litigation) was flipped to General Cinema Corporation from classical to top 40. In the mid to late 1970s, the station was essentially a top 40 station with the moniker 99-"We"-FM (WEFM). Morning shows were hosted by Dan Walker, the (Illinois) governor of Rock and Roll (former...
