Here's a commercial for Alberto VO5 hair spray with English television and theater "star" Rula Lenska. Also features an Alberto-Culver Silver Anniversary Sweepstakes offer at end where you can win $25,000 in Tiffany money (?)

Relevant Factoid: Son of Svengoolie loved to use her name as a punchline many times, especially in the early years of the show.

"Offer ends August 11, 1979."

This aired on local Chicago TV early Tuesday, February 20th ...

Here's Part 3 of an episode of the Hot Fudge Show - which was produced in Detroit but also aired all over the country, including Chicago on WFLD, WSNS, and WLS, at various times during the 70's and early 80's.

This segment features another sketch with Arte Johnson and the Mitts and the Hot Fudge Newsreel Show featuring a visit to a paper-making plant.

Despite what the IMDB entry and Wikipedia entries say, the show began in 1974, as this episode is from that year ...

Long Chevrolet - "Extra, Extra!" (Commercial, 1978)

Finally found! One of the original, infamous Long Chevrolet commercials with Timmy the Newsboy shouting "Extra, Extra!" ad infinitum.

There were other variations of this ad - one we know of has Timmy finally getting his just desserts and getting hit with a pie in the kisser!

A transition ad from a month after this one has him being promoted from newsboy to salesman. He was probably getting...

WBBM Channel 2 - "Have Your Children Done Their Homework?" (Station ID, 1979)

Here's a station ID slide from WBBM Channel 2 with the "Project Learning" logo and a voiceover message (by Bob Carrington) asking if your children had done their homework yet. This is followed by the "CBS Bong".

This was along the lines of such famous top-of-hour messages as this one from WNEW (now WNYW) Channel 5 in New York (future sister station to our own WFLD Channel 32) that asked (and still asks) ever...

Here's a commercial for Kayo Chocolate-Flavored Drink, which could be served either hot or cold. Made with fresh skim milk.

Kayo was famous for being among the prizes won by lucky children who entered into contests held daily on Steve Hart's Popeye on 44 (later to be called Popeye With Steve Hart).

"Spell it K-A-Y-and-O, O, O, O, O!"

This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, October 4th 1974 during the 3:30pm to 4pm timeframe.

WFLD Channel 32 - Emergency One (Promo, 1977-78)

Here's a promo for Emergency One (original syndicated title for the 1972-77 series Emergency!) on WFLD Channel 32. This promo, with no voiceover, starts off with the station's then-current "Look At Us!" slogan (with Kaiser-era logo) and shows short segments from various Emergency! episodes.

Since this was from a master tape we can only assume that it would have had a voiceover by Ron Beattie and a super of the WFLD logo and show name at the end, when it ac...

U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare - "Get a Dumb Checkup" (1976)

Here's a public service announcement (PSA) from the Social and Rehabilitation Service of the U.S. Department of Health, Education of Welfare, with a young basketball-dribbling man starting out considering skipping a complete physical examination (" . . . a dumb checkup . . . dumb . . . dumb . . . ") before his girlfriend advises him after mentioning she herself went (and has the glasses to prove it) - as part of a push for those under 21 to get a free checkup.

Ending voiceover ...

Zimmerman Lincoln-Mercury - "Cub Reporter" (Commercial, 1978)

Here's a commercial for Zimmerman Lincoln-Mercury featuring their "Cub Reporter" - seems likely inspired by Long Chevrolet's Timmy to me.

Featuring Zimmy The Zales Cat!

Zimmerman Lincoln-Mercury was located at North Avenue - Route 64 - at Dunham Road in St. Charles.

I wonder where "Cub Reporter" is now - she's got to be around 43 or 44 years old. Gotta love her Jodie Foster inspired outfit.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursd...

WTVO Channel 17 - "Snow Scene" (Station ID Slide, 1976)

Here's a rare Station ID and slide from WTVO Channel 17.

Voiceover by Bob Kevern.

"Bob was the weather man and did most of the booth announcing. Bob also introduced the weather window, with shots of citizens waving at the camera. Bruce Richardson anchored the news and was a wonderful person. Bob Lewis did the sports and had a loose casual style. If Ernie Banks dropped in - he was on the air. Those were good times." - Ted Schwandt
