Not from Chicago, but still of historical interest - a promo of Christmas evening's programming lineup on WNGE Channel 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. (The "GE" part of the station's calls was for its then-owner, General Electric; prior to 1973 it had been on Channel 8 under the call letters WSIX, until it swapped frequencies with PBS affiliate WDCN [now WNPT]; since 1983 Channel 2 has been known as WKRN.)

The lineup for this evening is listed as follows:

Here's Part 3 of an edition of Newscope on WFLD Channel 32, anchored by Patrick Muldowney.

NOTE: This is the earliest footage currently known to exist of a WFLD broadcast (albeit via kinescope); the sound heard in the background on the right channel is of time code as heard on 3/4" Umatic tapes. (this is not our museum's transfer)

Includes:

WFLD Channel 32 - Movie For A Saturday Afternoon - "The Kettles On Old McDonald's Farm" (Break #1 - Partial, 1980)

Here's something pretty rare - some footage from WFLD Channel 32's Movie for a Saturday Afternoon featuring the Kaiser-era 32 logo, so this must have dated to at least early 1977 (previous to this we only had a tiny excerpt of this bumper). Most of it was taped over unfortunately, but this is what remains. This first segment, a partial commercial break includes:

Partial Commercial: Life cereal - "...

WFBN Channel 66 - The Avengers - "Technical Funk-Up" (1985)

Here's a technical difficulties moment from WFBN Channel 66 during a broadcast of The Avengers.

We see the abrupt end of a commercial offer for a Civil War Chess Set and then a TV-66 "Road sign" station ID. Something's not quite kosher though as the interruption continues and the operator decides to make the most of it by playing some funky music (an excerpt of the song "What Is Hip", by Tower of Power) before the program returns.

WMET 95 and a Half FM (Commercial, 1981)

Here's a commercial for WMET 95 and a Half FM - Chicago's Classic Rock.

It says (C)1981 Metromedia Broadcasting - same people that bought WFLD a year or so later?

Funny how even an album like Steely Dan's Gaucho would be considered "Classic" even though it was only released less than a year prior to this commercial airing. Instant classic, I guess.

This commercial aired on local Chicago television on Friday, August 28nd 1981.

This commercial aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, April 7th, 1980.

WGN Channel 9 - Bozo's Circus - "4th of July Spectacular" (1978)

Here's a special Independence Day treat - a Bozo's Circus salute to the 4th of July as aired on that day in 1978 on WGN Channel 9. Introduced by Frazier Thomas, with performers from The Diana School of Dance, (and featuring a patriotic Cooky and Bozo cameo appearance at the end!)

An amazing time-capsule! Just when you think it's over, it continues. ;-) Watch the baton-twirler boy as he misses his mark a few times, but recovers nicely.
