As described by Wikipedia, TV DX is a term referring to the active search for distant television stations received during unusual atmospheric conditions. The term DX is an old telegraphic term meaning "long distance." TV DX aficionados would at...

Not from Chicago, but definitely Chicago related (as we'll get to in a moment) - here's a rarity, transferred directly from a 2" quad videotape, an edition of the 11th Hour News on WPRO Channel 12 in Providence, Rhode Island (which, since 1967, has been known as WPRI-TV; except for the period 1977-1995 when they were affiliated with ABC, the station has otherwise been, and is today, a CBS affiliate).

The anchor is someone you likely know well - Bob Wallace, years before ...

WIIC Channel 11 - 6:30 News Roundup With Len Johnson (1962)

Exactly 56 years ago today (at 6:30 PM)!

Here's an incredible find - usually anything this old, if I am lucky to find it, is on a 16mm kinescope (remember, in 1962 Quad tape itself was only 6 years old). And even though it's from a Pittsburgh station, it has a very strong Chicago connection, as it is anchored by Len Johnson, whose voice (if not face) will no doubt be very recognizable to people who watched WGN in the 60s, 70s, and very early 80s. He was one of the ub...

Here's the first part of an edition of an ongoing series called Medical Self-Help Training on WTTW Channel 11, hosted by Dr. Max Klinghoffer, Chairman of the Illinois State Medical Society's (ISMS) Disaster Medical Care Committee. This installment deals with the topic of "Infant and Child Care."

This rare surviving program from the early years of Chicago's "Window to the World" came directly from a 2" Quad tape that was found a few months ago in the basement archives...

WGN Channel 9 - Len Johnson and the News (Part 2, 1965)

Here's Part 2 (the final part) of an incredibly rare find - an edition of Len Johnson and the News on WGN Channel 9 from 1965! This was a forerunner to their overnight Night Beat newscast that ran from the late-sixties well into the 1980s.

You'll notice that this was during that awkward transition phase from black-and-white to color with most of the broadcast appearing in black-and-white, but then interspersed by random color commercials and a few color slides.
