Here's a commercial for Digger the dog, a yellow-hatted wind-up pooch from the good folks at Romper Room. Among his traits is the ability to walk five feet when you pull his string - er, leash.

Haven't seen this since it was first broadcast, yet remembered it instantly as soon as it started. I wish I knew why part of my brain that could be storing Tennyson poetry or the birthdays and anniversaries of close friends has decided, "No, we're going to hold onto this Digger the Dog commercial instead."

I had Digger. Why I had a fake dog when I had two dogs (one of which I could walk as a child)is something that makes no sense.
