Smctopia in the FuzzyMemories.TV forums says "The Arthur Treacher's in Park Ridge/Niles looked exactly like the one in the ad!" That one was near the intersection of Greenwood and Touhy, and it part of a car dealership today.
Kevin Szaflik, Szake in the FuzzyMemories.TV forums, used to frequent the one on North Central Avenue near Fullerton in Chicago, Illinois. They left Illinois, but they are still in Ohio and the East Coast http://www.arthurtreachersfranchising.com/locations.php . The blonde man with glasses in this ad reminds me of John Denver for some reason. Fuzzy Fun Fact: this Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips ad is part of the live read commercial for sports project for my high school television students.
Studio76Art in the FuzzyMemories.TV forums said that according to Wikipedia, the chain was simply named after him (as also was the case with a household help service), though he did serve as a spokesman for the company. He passed away two years before this spot aired.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, February 21st 1977.
