KTLA Channel 5 [Los Angeles, CA] - The Snipets - "Acorn Whistle" (1980)
Here's another rare Snipets segment! (or as it was amusingly called here "The Snipets"). These originally were created by and [primarily] aired on the Kaiser Broadcasting / Field Communications stations such as WFLD Channel 32, in the 1970's and early '80's.
However, in yet another discovery that broadens the history of where these aired - this one was discovered by Joe D'Angelo on a Betamax recording of a broadcast of the educational kids program, "Big Blue Marble" on KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles. (our thanks to Joe D'Angelo for the tape!) :-D
This one is another earlier, craft-based Snipets, showing you how to make a loud whistling noise with nothing but an acorn topper, strategically placed thumbs, and your lips.
Note - there's no "Produced by Field Communications" notice that was kept for the Field stations' airings) (or even earlier, the "Produced by Kaiser Broadcasting" notice). However, this does bear a "(C) 1976 Field Communications Corporation" copyright notice at the opening (though it was first produced in the Kaiser era).
This aired on local Los Angeles TV on Saturday, May 17th 1980 at a little before 7:30am PST.

The answer in how Snipets got around so early to non-Field stations, lay in an ad put up on eBay: Starting in 1978, these segments were nationally syndicated via The Samuel Goldwyn Television Company. This factor may explain why pre-'77 Kaiser-made episode-lets bore Field copyrights. There is still a yuuuuge question-mark as to whether Snipets made it to the biggest TV market in the country, New York City, and if so, on which station?
That this aired within Big Blue Marble also bears some irony. In NYC, that show aired for quite a few years on WPIX Channel 11 (which also ran WLS Chicago-originated Gigglesnort Hotel on Saturday mornings for a few years beginning in '77). Today KTLA is a sister station to WPIX - and therefore, also, to Chicago's own WGN Channel 9.
