Screaming Yellow Theater (Svengoolie) - "Show #5 - More Mort Sahl" (1972?)
Here's a segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop.
With no clapboard segments, we can only guess that this was Break #2 (from "Show #5") - although on these master tapes sometimes they didn't save all of the breaks, so this could be Break #3 or Break #4 for all we know. This one again features comedian Mort Sahl sitting down and making some humorous topical comments.
Mort Sahl mentions "Attorney General Kleindienst" - who was appointed by Nixon on June 12th 1972. So perhaps this is from 1972 after all? It would also tie in with the Flag Day/Stars and Stripes Forever clue. Maybe this aired as the Friday, June 16th 1972 episode? (4 days after Kleindienst was appointed AG and 2 days after Flag Day?)
He also mentions Betty Furness and Bess Myerson. Can anyone shed additional light on this?
The song you hear after the introduction is Svengoolie's theme song, the 1958 instrumental "Rumble" by Link Wray and his Ray Men. (with a loop of some screams added for good measure)
This aired on local Chicago TV on a Friday likely sometime in mid-1972.
