WGN Channel 9 - Garfield Goose And Friends (Break & Ending, 1975)

Here's a first - the first off-air recording of Garfield Goose and Friends that has ever been found (to my knowledge). Considering the program went off the air in 1976, this is not entirely surprising. (Some apparently erroneous TV listings had it showing again for short periods around 1982, but those have never been shown to be accurate)

This recording was ostensibly made for The Morning Movie presentation of "Sorry, Wrong Number" but luckily for us they started taping about 10 minutes early. Includes:

- The last couple minutes of an Auggie Doggy (and his Doggie Daddy) cartoon

- Garfield Goose and Friends commercial bumper slide with booth announcer voiceover

Commercial: Barbie's Town-House from Mattel (1974 Copyright)

Commercial: Movie promo for Walt Disney's Treasure Island and Dr. Syn, Alias The Scarecrow (ending voiceover by ?? - sorry, it's been awhile for ID'ing the WGN guys)

Commercial: Raggedy Ann & Andy Executive Set from Janex (1974 Copyright)

Commercial: Barrel of Monkeys and Down the Drain by Lakeside

- Garfield Goose and Friends commercial bumper slide with booth announcer voiceover

- Ending of Garfield Goose and Friends with Frazier Thomas saying goodbye to the kids and giving a quick preview of tomorrow's show - which featured 15 year old Christopher Bartnik of Cedar Lake, Indiana (who apparently now lives in Guam!) as a guest on Hobby Corner showing off his champion Angora Rabbit.

- Ending credits of Garfield Goose and Friends (with voiceover giving a promo for the animated adventures of "The Count of Monte Cristo" - Saturday at 5pm)

Commercial: Play-doh Pumper No. 9 from Kenner
Commercial: Rock'em Sock'em Robots by Marx

- WGN Movie promo slide for "The Sharkfighters", Friday at 10:30pm (voiceover by ??)

(Interesting to note: No WGN Station ID - The Morning Movie opening followed immediately)

This is a perfect example of the kind of gems that are still out there to be found. It had been sitting in a cabinet, making it through sweltering summer after sweltering summer with no air conditioning (until relatively recently) for just slightly over 34 years! I discovered this yesterday. I can count on one hand the number of existing Garfield Goose clips - 1) The March 1974 studio master clips, 2) The last episode studio master clips, 3) The Black and White clip where they talk about the 1959 White Sox, and perhaps one other from the mid-sixties. Unless I am forgetting some there are no other existing clips. Certainly nothing has surfaced that has been taped off-air. Until now, that is. Wish we could see it here. :-(

For some consolation, I will post the commercials from this segment separately, so we can at least enjoy those.

"We will return to Garfield's show after these announcements"

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, November 20th 1975 from approximately 8:53am to 9:00am.

Possibly interesting sidenote: Generalissimo Francisco Franco died on the same date - Thursday, November 20th 1975. (He is, by all reports, still dead)
