Dolphin Productions - "Demo Reel" (1978)
Here's a neat demo reel with a lot of vintage clips from Dolphin Productions, a legendary New York-based production company of the 1970's and early '80's that was one of three such firms in the country to use an early, analogue-based video animation system called "Scanimate." (The others were Image West Ltd. of Hollywood, CA and the company that first invented this process, Computer Image Corp. of Denver, CO; a history of the technology can be seen on this site.) After its heyday, it and the other companies using this technology were supplanted in popularity and demand by other graphics companies such as Klein&.
This tape was kept by Cathy Mustari, who from 1974 until the late 80s was WFLD Channel 32's art director; at the time this was produced (in or around 1978), the station was shopping around to find places to get WFLD's graphics done at and had requested various production houses' demo reels.
This demo has a voiceover (by ??) explaining the history of this pioneering technology, an explanation of its use in certain applications, the motivations behind certain visual images, and a behind-the-scenes peek of this technology in action (notice a brief shot of a Norelco PC-70 color camera at one point). Throughout the piece (preceded by a countdown laid out in a way as to show off their way of producing), samples of the following show opens, bumpers, ads, PSA's and other spots from within the U.S. and around the world are shown at certain points, including:

The production music beginning at 5:46, is "Dragster" from the KPM library -- it was used quite a bit in ABC's 1976 election coverage.
"Action 11" at 6:34 was WHAS-TV in Louisville. The Channel 41 ABC affiliate at 6:36 was WUHQ (now WOTV) in Battle Creek, Mich.
"Newscene 8" was from WVUE in New Orleans.
The "4" at 7:23 would have been from WBEN/WIVB in Buffalo.
The "Action 6 News Weather Bulletin" was from WTVN-TV (now WSYX) in Columbus, Ohio.
"Newswatch 2" at 7:59 was from WNGE (now WKRN) in Nashville.

Dolphin Productions also did the 1975 opening animation for Let's Make a Deal which is not shown in this video montage.

EDGE refers to the "Electronic Data Gathering Equipment" used for live reports (when that technology first became commonplace for local television stations) on Cincinnati's then-ABC (now CBS) affiliate WKRC (you can see the logo appear in this promo from 1978 with then-lead anchor Nick Clooney)
