WLS Channel 7 - Eyewitness News - "Weather & Break" (1973)
Here's an extremely vintage clip, all too brief unfortunately, but we see a WLS Channel 7 Eyewitness News Weather segment along with a commercial break. Includes:
Brief introduction with anchor Charles Rowe.
1st Part of the weather forecast with Steve Newman.
Commercial: First Federal Savings of Chicago - "The Saving Place" - Dearborn at Madison - 47th at Wood. (filmed at the Field Museum)
2nd Part of the weather forecast with Steve Newman.
Charles Rowe introducing a segment with Frank Mathie (if you pause it at the right moment you can see him) - unfortunately it was cut off on this recording.
Thanks to weatherman Steve Newman who saved this little piece for all these years, and for providing us with a copy. Steve says, "I kept the 2" Quad tape of this broadcast [made at WLS-TV] in bad environmental conditions for more than 30 years. (Hot attics, damp barn, basements etc) It was transferred to DVD by a professional dubbing service in Los Angeles back in February 2007, then color corrected by a independent producer friend. I was suprised that there was anything left on the brittle tape."
This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, August 11th 1973 during the 6pm News. (Steve thought this aired on Sunday, August 12th, but I think it's actually from Saturday)
