Here's Part 1 of the 4:30 Eyewitness News with Mary Ann Childers and Tim Weigel. Includes:
- Students at Crown Elementary sickened by apparent food poisoning. Reporting live from Saint Anthony's hospital is Jim Avila. Features an update from nurse Lucretia Bankston. Bill Nigut reports from (Saul?) Crown Elementary School (Crown Magnet School) and speaks with district superintendent Dr. Preston Bryant. (Technical Difficulties moment also occurs)
- Bertha Coleman and Charles Coleman die in a fire, probably caused by smoking in bed. Their son Robert Coleman is in critical condition.
- A semi tractor trailer truck crashed through a guard rail and landed on the Edens expressway at Dundee Road. Kim Peterson reporting, with additional information provided by Northbrook paramedic Milt Lemke. Truck driver Matthew Johnson of Detroit was not badly injured.
- Kidnappers from the "Revolutionary Organization of the People" in Colombia vow to kill Texaco executive Kenneth Bishop on March 29th if their demands are not met.
- OPEC nations convene to set new base price for oil
- Pope John Paul II speaks in Haiti
- U.S. military and economic aid for El Salvador expected
- President Reagan says there is evidence that Soviets are continuing to build their nuclear arsenal
