WBBM Channel 2 - Channel 2 News Special Report - Blizzard '79 (Part 1, 1979)
Here's Part 1 of a Channel 2 News Special Report on the Blizzard of 1979 - this update coming the day after the big snow hit. (has a tiny snippet of the ending of a WMAQ NewsCenter5 report at the beginning - you can recognize the theme music, as well as a flash of a CBS All in the Family slide - likely announcing the pre-emption for this report) Includes:
Carrie Cochran anchoring; Steve Shepard reporting on regular citizens clearing their streets; Phil Whitelaw doing the Weather; Emery King reporting about Mayor Bilandic's news conference, Chuck Gomez reporting from O'Hare Airport featuring stranded passengers Pat Miller, Joseph Searle, and Roy Engstrom.
Commercial: Zenith console televisions - "Do It Now! Buy Zenith" (voiceover by Bud Kelly)
Commercial: Yankee Doodle Dandy restaurants - "Free Fries" (yet another fossil of fast-food history - were they only in the Chicagoland area?)
Trivia Note: WBBM-TV anchor Carrie Cochran was once married to Bob Sirott. (Where is she now I wonder?)
This aired in local Chicago TV on Sunday, January 14th 1979 at 7pm.
