Here's an excerpt of the 1982 Chicago Emmy Awards (with some slightly amended audio) which aired on WBBM Channel 2, originating from the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, and hosted by Phil Donahue. (Apologies for the picture quality.)

This part features Mary Ann Childers, Irv Kupcinet, Steve Dahl, Garry Meier and John Roach.

Mr. Dahl, Mr. Meier (whose first name was misspelled "Gary" on the lower-third) and Mr. Roach won in the category of "Outstanding Achievements for Entertainment Programs: For a Single Program" for the special Steve Dahl's Greetings from Graceland on WLS Channel 7, which the first two hosted and the last-named produced. After they take their turns at the mic to accept, a segment from this special, which was an hilarious look into the Elvis phenomenon, is shown. (The full portion of this particular segment can be seen here.) This clip ends with an art slide bumper for Mr. Dahl's very short-lived TV show It's Too Early! which aired on WFBN Channel 66 from May to June of 1983. (this clip likely came from the Tuesday, June 7th 1983 episode of It's Too Early, which aired the day after the 25th Anniversary Chicago Emmy Awards on Monday, June 6th 1983)

Look for an Emmy nod to "our own" Frank Chambers, Jr. (TeleFrank) who, although more cynical lately after being let go from WFLD (stupid automation), donated some great material to us and is an all around good guy and veteran of the tail-end of the "classic" local TV era. He was nominated for his work on WCIU-TV's long-running gospel show Rock of Ages.

This originally aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, June 7th 1982.
