Here's another segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop. By this point, if the clapboard is of any indication, the SYT title had been eschewed in favor of Svengoolie.

This segment (#1-1) is from Show #61 (according to the clapboard), with guest Larry Lujack. A picture of the legendary Chicago "superjock," who was holding court at WCFL AM 1000 (housed in the same building as WFLD in those days), is hanging behind Svengoolie. The recording date was April 11th 1973.

This segment is called "Svengoolies Brane Busters," with two questions (one of the cards Svengoolie held said "Brian Buster" while the other said "Brayn Buster"). The music heard in the background is "Rumble" by Link Wray and His Ray Men (with a few screams thrown in for good measure). A reference to the then-burgeoning Watergate scandal is listed among the multiple-choice questions, and one of the answers made a pun relating to "a rock / Iraq." One of the horn sounds appears to have come from Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass' 1966 hit "Tijuana Taxi." One of the intelligence scores Svengoolie cites made reference to then-Defense Secretary Melvin Laird, and his answers for last week's brain busters referenced George Burns, Hamburger Helper, The Marquis Chimps, and Soupy Sales.

According to the TV listings, the two movies shown on this edition were "The Invisible Dr. Mabuse" (1962) and "The Screaming Skull" (1958), so it's possible this break aired during the former (#1-1 would indicate this was Movie #1, Break #1).

    Directed by Ray Barnas.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, April 13th 1973.
