Screaming Yellow Theater (Svengoolie) - "Larry Lujack" - Bedtime Quotation (Closing, 1973)
Here's another segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop. By this point, if the clapboard is of any indication, the SYT title had been eschewed in favor of Svengoolie.
This closing segment is from Show #61 (according to the clapboard), with guest Larry "Superjock" Lujack. The recording date was April 11th 1973.
In this segment, Svengoolie is in his upright crypt, starting with a few parody lines of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother," then reading a "bedtime quotation" ostensibly from telegraph inventor Samuel F.B. Morse whose message consists solely of dots and dashes. A rendition of a small part of "Hooray for Hollywood" (as originated from Episode #1 of The Stan Freberg Show which aired on CBS Radio on July 14th 1957) is played within the final moments of this segment.
According to the TV listings, the two movies shown on this edition were "The Invisible Dr. Mabuse" (1962) and "The Screaming Skull" (1958), so this break aired after the end of the latter.
Directed by Ray Barnas.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, April 13th 1973.
