Screaming Yellow Theater (Svengoolie) - "Wilderness Road" - The Golden Goolie Award (Segment #2-2, 1973)
Here's another segment from Screaming Yellow Theater - the original Svengoolie, which aired on WFLD Channel 32 from 1970-1973. Svengoolie was played by Jerry G. Bishop. By this point, if the clapboard is of any indication, the SYT title had been eschewed in favor of Svengoolie.
This segment (#2-2) is from Show #59 (according to the clapboard). However, there is no recording date.
In this segment, Svengoolie is presiding over "The Golden Goolie Awards," whose theme music is "Hail to the Chief" and whose symbol is a rubber chicken painted in gold. Sven's "Pullet Surprise" goes to "Miss Zasu DeWolfe of Bandylegs, North and South Dakota" (the picture shown appears to look like former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill) for dropping 40,000 tons of Alka-Seltzer into the Atlantic Ocean. However, the inevitable blowback from her act occurs, with the studio shaking, followed by "hiccup" sounds of one of Spike Jones' classic recordings.
Directed by Phil Doty.
"Symbol of Excellence, Quality -- and Berwyn." "Berwyn?!"
This aired on local Chicago TV sometime in early 1973.
