The Great American Turn-On (Commercial, 1981)
Here's a commercial for "The Great American Turn-On", which was a forerunner to "The Clapper" that debuted a few years after this ad. Available at Walgreens.
What is The Great American Turn-On, anyway? Money? Power? Use of our military-industrial complex? ;-)
In any case, according to the website Trademarkia.com, The Great American Turn-On was a trademark of a company called Futronics, Inc., based in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, which filed their application on June 26th 1978, and had it granted on July 21st 1981. ("The Clapper," on the other hand, was and is sold by Joseph Enterprises, Inc. of San Francisco, California.) According to Trademarkia.com, "The Great American Turn-On" was given "Cancelled - Section 8" status on February 2nd 1988, by which time "The Clapper" became familiar to millions of Americans.)
