WBBM Channel 2 - Channel 2 Weekend News (Part 3, 1978)
Here's Part 3 of a complete edition of the Channel 2 Weekend News on WBBM Channel 2, anchored by Bob Wallace (substituting for Harry Porterfield). Also featuring Irene Rodriguez. Includes:
Bob reports on the following items:
- Harvey police officer Bruce Warrow (sp?) is set to meet with prosecutors over his refusal to name a source who provided him with information on a drug deal, a refusal that landed him in jail for the past week; he wants to provide such info to prosecutors on the proviso such name is kept secret from a grand jury
- Chicago chosen as venue for prisoner exchange between U.S. and Canada; the swap would involve 150-200 Americans in Canadian jails, and 80 Canadians in American jails, and would take place in mid-August; similar to a recent exchange between U.S. and Mexico
- Illinois launches new generic drug program that can save consumers $25 million a year on prescription drugs; a clip from a press conference given by Rep. William Marovitz explaining the program is shown
- A preview on other events over the next week, including a meeting between the CTA and Amalgamated Transit Workers' Union over increased security, Friday votes in the City Council over two issues (a financing plan that would allow middle-income families to purchase homes in the cities, and a proposed ordinance banning alcohol purchases by persons under 21), and a Park District appeal of a lower-court ruling that allowed Nazis to march in Marquette Park
Bob next leads into Irene Rodriguez' weather forecast, including an end to the rain by Monday, and mostly sunny by the 4th of July; a live "mini-shot" of people having fun outside despite the rain is seen behind the temperature readings and forecast for next two days.
Bob then previews Bruce Roberts' upcoming sports report before the next break.
