WGN Channel 9 - NewsNine - "Dart Gun Fun" (Excerpt, 1977)
Here's an excerpt of an edition of NewsNine on WGN Channel 9, anchored by Jack Taylor. Also featuring Frank Rios, with brief appearances by Harry Volkman and Jack Brickhouse(?). Includes:
Jack introduces a piece by Frank Rios about toys that could be considered dangerous for children - and Rios finds that the toy he's holding (a dart gun) is dangerous for him - something which takes several takes for him to find out. Jack then signals the end of the filmed piece by speaking of Frank's "trials and tribulations" while flanked by Harry Volkman to his right and by Jack Brickhouse(?) to his left. Jack then wishes everybody a good weekend.
Ending segment, starting with long shot of NewsNine set, while some weird electronic music ("Cosmic Ballad" by [Jean-Jacques] Perrey - [Gershon] Kingsley, from their 1966 debut album The In Sound from Way Out!, Vanguard VRS-9222/VSD-79222) plays, then cutting to filmed shots of kids playing with Christmas toys - the Shogun Warriors(!) (as they test their safety by shooting projectiles in each other's eyes) and super text consisting of temperatures across the country and weather forecast through Sunday, with voiceover (Carl Greyson?) advising of the start of the WGN Presents presentation of the 1962 Marlon Brando/Trevor Howard version of "Mutiny on the Bounty" (the ending moments of which, and what followed, can be found on this clip), plus one credit - Produced by Alex Burkholder. "Portions Mechanically Reproduced."
