Here's a NewsCenter5 report (one of "Barry's People?) from Barry Bernson on WMAQ Channel 5 about the winner of the National Enquirer's annual "Ugly Face Contest" (first prize: $500 plus a trip to Las Vegas for an appearance on The Mike Douglas Entertainment Hour), 37-year-old Geneva Winters of Carpentersville, IL (population: 23,300). A cover of a recent National Enquirer issue (with Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers of Hart to Hart on the cover, following the death of Wagner's wife Natalie Wood) is briefly shown. Mrs. Winters had practiced for a year for her entry into the contest by removing her false teeth and making all sorts of faces. Her secret: "You gotta have personality [to] get you around in this world today." (As well as guts and nerve.)

This report is preceded by an abbreviated countdown with tone; because this was from the original master tape, there are no lower-third inserts for either Mr. Bernson or Mrs. Winters.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Monday, February 15th 1982 during the 4:30pm to 5pm timeframe.
