Here's Part 3 of the live, special discussion program Sunday, Nuclear Sunday: Kansas City Reacts on KMBC Channel 9 in Kansas City, MO. This show, which aired right after the ABC telefilm The Day After, was hosted by Larry Moore (formerly of WLS Channel 7).

This part starts off with audience member James Bogle (sp?) with a question to Dr. Jennifer Leaning about the U.S.'s ability to protect itself in the event of a nuclear attack. Next, Tom Occabee (sp?) asks FEMA's Patrick Breheny about what people would eat after all the stockpiled food was consumed. After that, Wade Ledoux (sp?) asks Mr. Breheny about Federal allocation for civil defense. Larry then goes to Young Americans for Freedom's Robert Dolan at the Lawrence studios, who is highly critical of The Day After and its take-home message, but John O'Brien considers the film "overly optimistic." This part closes with a taped response from Joseph Cardinal Bernadin, Archbishop of Chicago; as his message is played, shots of the studio audience and the candlelight peace vigil are shown. Cardinal Bernadin's segment is cut short before it ends, and Larry mentions the Cardinal's other points.

This aired on local Kansas City TV on Sunday, November 20th 1983 during the 9:25pm to 10:10pm timeframe.
