KOCO Channel 5 - Good Morning Ho Ho (Excerpt, 1972)
You wanted it, you got it: More Ho Ho. Here's an excerpt from Good Morning Ho Ho on KOCO Channel 5 in Oklahoma City, OK, with Ed Birchall as the legendary clown and featuring Pokey the puppet (played by stage manager Bill Howard). Includes:
Show opening titles (with voiceover by Rich Little as Jonathan Winters)
Ho-Ho chatting with Pokey on who that was (Pokey guesses Don Cherry before Ho-Ho corrects him). Next, Ho-Ho reaches through the hopper to pick a winner, and as he dials the winner's phone, a bumper slide of Marcus Welby, M.D. with Robert Young and James Brolin (with typesetting dating that slide as coming from the 1969-70 season) is shown, with a shot of Pokey peering out and doing some singing (of Chapter 12 of Captain America, as he says). The slide is shown for the winning caller to name the program.
The winner was 2-year-old Dane Butterfield of Ponca City, whose 2nd birthday was on the day that this live program aired; his grandmother, Mrs. Walker, answers the phone, and has one of the other children - a daughter, Laurie (sp?) who gives the correct answer, with the fanfare music coming up. Ho-Ho then asks which of the prizes Dane would like, and Laurie mentions the Pitch-Up Baseball. She says there are three children in the family - her, Dane, and Jimmy (sp?) Walker. Ho-Ho finally invites Laurie to help introduce a Roger Ramjet cartoon, the first seconds of which are seen at the point this excerpt ends.
This clip came from a 2" quadruplex master tape that was saved by Don Shannon, former WFLD director who previously worked at KOCO-TV, so he likely directed this segment.
This aired on local Oklahoma City TV on Tuesday, April 11th 1972. (Not quite verified yet but I found a Dane Butterfield who seems to match the timeframe - waiting on final verification)
