WLS Channel 7 - Eyewitness News at 10pm - James Ward - "Hamburgers" (1987)
Here's a food review from restaurant critic James Ward that aired on the 10pm edition of Eyewitness News on WLS Channel 7. Here, Ward samples and critiques the different styles of hamburgers from numerous Chicago eateries including Melvin's, McDonald's, Charlie Barnet's (sp?) in Northbrook, the Billy Goat Tavern, White Castle, the Acorn on Oak and Lively City Tavern on Monroe. Going to particulars, James spotlights the newer Muskie's (still open!) Fresh Char-Broiled Hamburgers at 2870 North Lincoln, run by Joel Steinwald - rated '7' in the "Bread" category and '6' for "Circuses." A piano rendition of "Chicago" (the song made famous by Frank Sinatra) is heard throughout his review. At the end, James previews next week's review of a famous eatery on the Loop.
Also featuring anchors John Drury (who introduces Ward's review) and Mary Ann Childers (who, at the end, teases Tim Weigel's upcoming sports report).
"Ciao-Ciao for now..." (or is that "Ciao Chow for now..."?) ;-)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, August 20th 1987 during the 10pm to 10:30pm timeframe
