Here's a report called "Chicago Goes Hollywood," on former Chicago natives and area residents who later moved to Hollywood and varying degrees of fame, that was introduced by co-anchor Tim Weigel and reported by John Callaway on an edition of Eyewitness News at 4:30pm on WLS Channel 7.

Intermixed with the sights of the L.A. area (with shots of such landmarks as Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Walks of Fame for the likes of Mickey Mouse, Glen Campbell and Claire Trevor, the Beverly Hills Hotel, Bel Air West Gate, the iconic "HOLLYWOOD" sign and a Gucci shop), with pertinent accompaniment by such music as "It Never Rains in Southern California" by Albert Hammond, "California Dreamin' " by The Mamas & The Papas, "Valley Girl" by Frank and Moon Unit Zappa, "California Girls" by The Beach Boys, "Boulevard" by Jackson Browne, "Take Me Back to Chicago" by Chicago(R) and "California" by Joni Mitchell (all of which are played a bit sped-up in pitch), are interviews with former AM Chicago co-host Steve Edwards who, at the time of this piece, was a co-host of 2 on the Town on KNXT (now KCBS) Channel 2 (and, also, later was the last co-host of KABC Channel 7's AM Los Angeles in the years up to its demise in 1991; today he co-hosts Good Day L.A. on KTTV Channel 11, a sister station to our own WFLD Channel 32); former Homemakers spokesperson Shelley Long (who by this time had landed the role of Diane Chambers on a little TV series called Cheers); actress Cindy Morgan (best known for her roles in Caddyshack and Tron); film directors Peter Hyams and William Friedkin; TV director Jerry Kupcinet (son of legendary Chicagoan Irv Kupcinet); Universal Television Vice President Stefanie Kowal; and NBC Entertainment President Brandon Tartikoff - all of whom speak of the trials and tribulations of living in La-La Land and how it compares to when they plied their respective trades (and just plain lived) in and around the Windy City.

At the end of this report, John thanks producer Marsha Jordan and editor Howard Malis for putting this together - and he and Tim also mention how, for all these people's saying how much they loved Chicago, they ended up all leaving.

This aired on local Chicago TV in 1982.
